  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm disappointed

From Family Research Council President Tony Perkins:

Yeap, it's that darn secular media who rejected this young man.

Well, what do you expect from the media? Hey, I'm quite liberal, and even I can't stand the so-called "liberal media". They lie. There's not getting around it. Example: Despite what the media portrays, based on FBI and Department of Justice statistics, this generation of youth is the most non-violent generation the country has ever produced (based on homicide and violent crime rates).

The irony of a Christian organization kicking a man out for talking to nonexistent persons is absolutely delicious.

Exactly what I was thinking! How does one differentiate between the 'real' voices in your head and the 'non-real' ones?

Not a hard and fast rule, but schizophrenics are usually not violent. Generally, they're too disorganized. This guy went to specific targets, posted internet threats, and carried multiple weapons with much reserve ammo. That kind of planning is not typical for a psychotic. The reports I've heard say he was diagnosed with depression. I wonder if he was taking an SSRI. There's still a lingering suspicion that antidepressants, especially SSRIs are linked to suicide and homicide in adolescents. (Remember the South Carolina boy who killed his grandparents, then set fire to their house. And tried to blame Zoloft.) If Matt Murray was taking any medication, I'll bet someone (a plaintiff's lawyer) will try to pin it on his doctor(s) and/or medication.

Exactly what i'm trying to get across :) We don't know and even if we did, it's terrible to gloat about another's tragedy.

I honestly expected to see one of the really nasty attacking atheists here using this to bait christians, based on the info of the guy being raised in a christian family, home-schooled, a member of the organization itself previously etc... There is a lot in there that someone wanting to just attack and hurt others could have used. It truly boggled me to see some on the christian side, who I thought were going to be on the defensive for these reasons, instead using one cops personal opinion to do the very same thing.

I think it would be good for people to discuss this whole thing maturely and with compassion for each other rather than looking to 'score points'. There's far too much of that already in these forums and it would be nice for once to talk about something tragic with thoughtfulness.

Renton, i'm not going to go after you for what you said, even though it falls right into what i'm talking about. All i'm going to do is ask you to please, please actually go read up on the known facts so far before saying anything else. After that if you truly wish to try and profit from the sad deaths of your fellow human beings and religionists then that is your choice, but at least you'll be doing it from a position of knowledge.

Oh please spare me. Your OP was a bait OP in the first place.. your trying to make atheists look all innocent and righteous just because they haven't said anything. Well gee thats funny, because the internet is a big place and I doubt you have read EVERY single atheists comment on this. So don't get all self righteous on me as if im profiting from someones death, ... from what I've seen your the first to bring it up in this OP in order to make some "statement", not me..

What you seem to be missing here is that not everyone sees things in terms of "Us vs. Them". There are Christians and other theists that suck and say disgusting things, and on the other side there are atheists who suck and say disgusting things. Both sides do it. Captain Yesterday seems to me to be only suggesting to everyone that it stops.

Can't you agree with that? That such statements as outlined in the OP aren't doing anyone any favor and are childish and petty and unbecoming of rational adults?

Any person can read between the lines in this OP.. This OP IS childish, nothing but a bait and hook.. , because it is trying to make a statement using a tradegy as leverage..

And you never do this, ever, right Renton? ;)

it depends on what the person is portraying and if it has good intentions..If a gruesome abortion video compels a couple people to not have an abortion it is worth it because lives are saved..However this OP is criticizing christians for using tradegys to make statements when in reality he is doing the exact same thing in this OP. I was pointing out the hypocrisy of this..
