Hey, I've been awake since like 5 pm and I'm awake at 5 am. My sleep schedule is crazy. Normally I'll watch and listen to worldly things because I'm soooo bored and I need something to do. But I'm trying to rid my life of worldly things and become Holy. So I can't be looking towards the world's entertainment to fill my boredom. What can I do when I'm bored? The temptations come heavy when I have nothing to do. What wholesome things can I do to fill my life with positivity and not destruction? My life would be sooooooooo much better if I knew what to do with it besides fill it with empty entertainment.

I sympathise with you, for i know it is when we get bored we are susceptible to doing what we shouldn't do.
The only thing i could suggest is what I'm sure you already know. An active social life with Christian friends. Joining a church( any church) where you would find that easiest to happen.
Can be difficult to bring ourselves to do it, I know. But speaking from experience, trying to live a Godly life when living a life of boredom, is practically impossible to do

You're probably right. It is hard to do for sure. Brings me to worry about things.

I've just started four weeks enforced holiday. I'm fine when I have the job, but holidays are the problem. Fighting boredom is often a losing battle.
There is a Christian community not far from where I live, I used to live there once. I know I should go there and ask them if I can stay for a couple of weeks/ work my way. then I won't be bored. But it's easy to let negative thoughts make you sit back, do nothing, stayed bored, then do what you know you shouldn't do.
How about we pray for each other concerning this?

Sure I'll pray for you. I have hope for you to make a step in the right direction. But to be completely honest my faith is pretty weak concerning my ability to be friends with others so I'll need a miracle.

If you're more friendly than I am I have a lot more confidence than if you were unfriendly. It can't be that bad to go up and visit with them a day. Maybe you'll find some enjoyment out of it. Even a tiny bit.

Speaking from experience, when I haven't done what I know I should do, my life only gets worse, until I am desperate enough to do what I knew I should have done in the first place.
Also, I never had any confidence to make any friends in most of the churches I attended when younger. But different types of people go to different types of churches. My guess is, if you try enough churches, you will find one, that has people in it you are more confident to chat to.
I wouldn't be so concerned which denomination it is, only that you may find it easier to make friends there

You speak so much truth, it is good. Better to see it than to not see it. You're right, I need to do what I need to do even if it feels like I might die. If I die I die to the Lord. I believe that's a scripture. :)

And I'll add, if we die we die to the Lord. Make the most of every opportunity who knows what'll happen but at least you did it. And perhaps you'll be blessed from it. I hope some things go well for you. I know God's grace is huge and that He's there for us even now.

I'm nearly sixty! I've learnt things through bitter experience.
When I was in my early twenties I belonged to a church where the young people came from good solid homes, and though young people live far from perfect lives, the young people in the church had not lived life as I had. I had been in a young person's prison and much more. I couldn't relate to them I didn't feel comfortable with them. That was t their fault, we were just world's apart due to our different lives we had led

Ah yes I understand. Although I wish it wasn't this way I guess sometimes it just is. I want to hope that I'm adaptable to every situation but who knows what will and won't happen. Thanks for the testimony. And I want to remind you of the scripture that goes like a day with the Lord is like a thousand years. We have so much time to do what we need to do. God is patient with everyone. I often have thoughts like even though I am 23, in the blink of an eye I could be 50 or even 80. I have testimonies of single days holding so much value even though the testimonies may be short ones.

Get in the habit of reading the Bible and praying; great help against temptations, and they're activities that can actually be enjoyed (at first it may seem otherwise)

In fact, as long as you're living in God's will actively, prayer is the best answer to every temptation. But first ensure your heart is surrendered to Him.

Hey, Matthew. You are singing my song here. Spent many years enduring the pain of boredom, and the failures that come with it. Boredom in fact has always been my biggest enemy, bigger than the Devil, the world, or the flesh, as strange as that may sound.

My best advice to you is ministry. It may take some time, possibly years, before you both find and become fully prepared for what God has called and created you for. But once you start entering into your calling you begin to be more and more fulfilled in it, and more and more busy, to where the need for entertainment to give you something to do starts to diminish more and more.

I suggest pray increasingly for God to reveal your calling to you and prepare you for it. That's ultimately where you will become filled out in spiritual things.

God Bless!

I have been unemployed the last four months now. I try to keep in good habits by getting up at a reasonable time and going to bed at a normal time.

I light candles at the internet church and pray. Write in my journal a little.
Click on New Threads on CF and read the posts I missed whilst I was asleep. I pray for people as necessary and sometimes look things up that interest me or that I could learn about.

Most days I work out at home, strength training.

Do the Washington Post crossword.

Shower and shop everyday to get out of the house and be a part of society.

Maybe do some yard work or household chores.

Daily Bible study and ideally some Bible reading and looking up things I need to learn about.

Duolingo is fun and knowing other languages could be a useful tool in the future for ministry or work.

I used to do free online courses on sites like Future Learn but they seem to give me worries about health and food which disturb my equilibrium (I kept doing medicine and nutrition courses) so I have stopped for now. Our Daily Bread Christian University has some really good free (Christian) courses.

I watch quite a lot of Netflix which I enjoy and it is nice for my husband as he is pretty much housebound. I know it is mindless entertainment and not wholesome but I guess it keeps me in touch with the ways of the world. It's probably not ideal to create a Christian bubble and stay in it although that sounds pretty great, haha.

I have never been gifted with the skills required to make friends so I am a bit of a lone wolf and have to find ways to occupy myself.

Thanks for the testimony. I appreciate it a lot. I need to try to do something to get myself in some type of ministry. I also hope you are able to fight boredom with whatever God revealed to you! Life has many roads and even if you turn left or right God is there waiting to correct the error! I really want to do what God wants me to because I know how many lives would benefit from me listening to God a lot. Thanks again for your testimony and I appreciate your response!

Listen to some music that praises and worships God and pray that God grips your heart, for Him, and that He Gives you a hunger for Him and His Word. Make a list of what you are thankful for, and thank God for His blessings to you.

Begin finding ways to bless others, sometimes anonymously. Ask God to help you be a "giver" and to "delight" in giving.

Yes indeed. And if you just keep walking with Him you will eventually come to a place where everything just sort of opens up for you. Wonderful things you could not have foreseen. So just keep persevering, and seeking Him over His will for your life. The time will come.
