That sucks :( My son had strep this weekend and I gave him amoxicillin for it and he's doing a lot better now.

IJWTS - I had strep last week, and took amoxicillin, but it gave me bad side effects and my substitute dr said to just stop taking it. Well that is what made me worse I guess, according to the Urgy care dr. So she gave me a new rx. and told me if I dont feel better in a few days she is also going to prescribe steroids because its really bad.

IJWTS ahh yeah. My son got a rash from the amoxicillin but it cleared right up. Sorry to hear you got bad side effects. I do believe you are supposed to finish your full course of antibiotics because if you stop it, then the bacteria become resistant to it and come back even stronger or a different infection can appear. Of course, if you are having a severe allergic reaction or other serious side effects I don't see why they could prescribe you a different antibiotic. They like to give amoxicillin first because it is cheap and normally works pretty well.

IJWTS - yeah well the dr that called me told me just to stop taking it after about 3 days of taking it and then he didnt prescribe anything else. So that is where it went wrong. So this dr was so much nicer. I am thinking of changing drs.

IJWTS wow, what an idiot. I can't believe a doctor told you to not finish your full course of antibiotics and then didn't prescribe anything else. That is what contributes to making certain strains of bacteria so resistant! I can't believe a medical professional would give you such poor advice. I am actually shocked that he wouldn't follow such a basic principle. It's about as a bad as a financial planner telling you to go ahead and rack up credit card debt and spend all your savings.

IJWTS - Reading through your last few posts, that's why I haven't switched Doctors in over 20 years. He never misses that stuff (hate to use the word never)...

IJWTS - I have been going to the same dr for over 10 years. She knows me well, we argue and debate alot. Because she insists on prescribing medication even when she knows I wont take it. :) But when any of me or my sisters get sick, the rest of us dont have to come in we just call and she will put a rx at our pharmacy for us.

IJWTS - My doc would do that, especially because my mom was an RN, but sometimes he'd ask us to come in. He's great!

Another busy day at work, but hey, it's already 9:30.
