  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

IJWTS -

Nosy people bother me. Especially when they work at the bank. Twice I felt it necessary to deposit and withdraw a considerably larger sum of cash than the avg joe would normally carry on himself.

Two times now, in a conversational tone - I've been asked what I was buying or what I was selling.

I'm thinking of writing the bank about it. I'm not doing anything illegal and it's NONE OF THEIR DANG BUSINESS.

I don't know about Australian banks, but that's pretty normal in U.S. banks. I used to be a bank teller and we were told to "establish relationships" and ask people those sorts of conversations in order to know what (and how) to sell to you. Though that sounds like they were asking if you laundered money. If it helps, (in the U.S. at least) tellers have to ask nosy questions if they don't want to be threatened with job loss or jail time. If someone launders money and a teller (or other banking staff) wasn't paying attention or asking appropriate questions, she/he can go face incarceration and fines and, of course, job loss.

IJWTS that this no editing thing is hurting me. I will now appear to type like an idiot. Oh, and it just occurred to me that I won't be able to edit out my posts anymore. Hmmm. Must be careful what I say on here because it really can't be taken out. I have a feeling I may be posting less until this is fixed.

Aye, you have to ask as it is the tellers business both for the purposes of knowing the customer and to query unusual transactions. That and you can get quite bored without attempting to engage in light conversation, sometimes you're not even really listening. Just going through the motions so no-one can sneak up behind you and whisper that you're not being friendly enough :sorry:

I too dislike the editing issue. Although when i'm logged out doing the whole lurker thing I can see the edits people have been doing, generally. Very odd. I'm used to going back, correcting mistakes, adding a little more, taking a little out. This requires far too much work, it's like those awful tests where once you press submit there's no going back, only forward :|

Anyway, IJWTS ....

It amuses me that i'll waffle on about all sorts of piffle here, but I won't go over certain lines. Wavy, flexible lines, but lines all the same.

I think the edit button is being selective. It's letting me edit a word very quickly after posting, but not in every post. And it's not letting me delete any words.

If you say "DD," I think you're talking about.. something you're really not talking about at all. :sorry: If you say "DS," I think you're talking about your portable game console of choice. If you use "DW" to refer to someone, I'm going to think you're referring to Darkwing (Duck). "DH" means you misspelled. "SO" means you probably don't care too much to refer to the person by name or by typing out "significant other." "LO" is just lazy.. as is the rest of it.

I was on a nanny board for years and these were common.

Mostly for safety reasons, using your real names or names of the kids was a huge no-no.

And they were universal, so it was like an "LOL"- you don't need to type out "laughing out loud" for everyone to know what you are talking about.

Lazy? Perhaps. I like to think of it as efficient ^_^

On the "DH" business. My understanding is that DH=Dear Husband and DW=Dear Wife. The two are used often on the City-Data forums using these definitions.

Yes, that is the full meaning.

If someone launders money and a teller (or other banking staff) wasn't paying attention or asking appropriate questions, she/he can go face incarceration and fines and, of course, job loss.

The problem with that is - it's not like the teller window was exactly private with like 8 people waiting in line and within hearing distance. All of a sudden my business becomes their business too. Add to that - I have not entered into a confidentiality agreement with the teller. For all I know he/she could gossip and blab my business to anyone.

Yeah, I hate being asked. And I hate the implications of it. People think "well, if you have nothing to hide then...". Well, point in fact, I DO have something to hide - and I don't hide it because it's wrong or illegal - I hide it because it's *dangerous* to me if people knew.

Imagine the danger you put yourself in if, say, for instance, you are a buyer and seller of oh - I don't know, rare antiques or something and the nature and frequency of your business requires that at any one time - you have no less than 10K in cash on you. It's nobody's business. And it's actually dangerous to your personal safety if the general public knows.

I do appreciate your input, Historia -and I can see why - but still - it does irk.
