  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

IJWTS, not that it applies to our marriage, but I can't believe there are people who can't wrap their minds around the idea that marriage is not just about sex and some people do get married even if they are totally incapable of having sex with each other. To say that "marriage is sex" as if it is the be all end all of things is so... shallow.

I think a problem with your post is that it is reactionary and introduces a red herring. I don't know any married people who define marriage as "just sex". But it is true that sex creates a special union within a marriage that helps define it. After all, one can live with family or friends, hug and kiss them, be committed to them, make financial and otherwise life decisions with them and all kinds of other togetherness and communal activities without being married to them. Or would you disagree?

IJWTS I was going to go to bed like an hour and a half ago

IAJWTS I had the worst experience ever with public transport yesterday.. (apart from that train ride I took to Birmingham once.. oh my goodness). But yeah, not fun when a 15 min journey ends up taking 2 hours and involves lots of waiting around. Especially when it's raining.

Edit: just to counteract my moaning, I saw a red squirrel the other day! It was scampering :sohappy:

I disagree with the people who are saying the marriage is the marriage only because of sex and that without sex, it isn't legit. I had sex with boyfriends before I was a Christian and even lived with one for two years. I wasn't married to either of them just because I had sex with them. Living with someone and having sex with them is by appearances like a marriage, just without the legal status, but it isn't the same and I don't feel that's just because of the legal stuff. Also, there are people who get married who cannot have sex (due to disability or whatever) and I don't think that their marriages are any less legit just because they aren't having sex.

I don't really know how to put in words what I feel but I think that marriage is a lot more...

(hope my post was coherent enough -- I have a fussy puppy I'm dealing with at the moment)
