If your child “needed” an extra arm..,

How about telling them the truth, and helping them to understand it?
Of course. That’s part of the process of determining what’s in my child’s best interest. Before involving a medical specialist, we will research the statistical data quantifying the effectiveness of all available treatments, weigh that against the risks and consequences, and come to an informed decision together. It’s very important that we both understand the truth for this process to go well.

Your child’s best interest is not lying to them.

You are lying to them by going along with their notion that they have an extra arm.
I don’t think I said that. What I said was I’d acknowledge that this is the way they feel, and I’d research the most effective methods of treating this condition. Did you confuse me with someone else?

And agsin

It depends if I had reason to believe their life would be better if we pursued that type of treatment.

We’re talking about treating the feeling that they have too many/few limbs. We can do that either by subtracting/adding limbs until they feel they have the right number, or doing some psychological work to remove the feeling rather than the limbs. We would decide which route to take based on which was most likely to result in my child leading a fulfilling life.

Where do you see me lying?

If your child came to you and said they had an extra arm because they felt that they should only have one arm, would you support surgery to have an arm removed?
If your religion told you to cut off part of your son's penis, would you?

And here I thought this was an interesting thread about three armed children.

But nooooo
Did you know Davey Crocket had three ears?

A left ear, a right ear, and a wild front ear.

Are you then promoting a case by case approach with nothing off the table?

In the transgender issue it seems to me to be a misnomer. Sex does not align with gender so the sex is changed, not the gender. Gender cannot be changed. Shouldn't it be transexual? Back to the child with the unwanted arm.

What is that child's truth? He or she has two arms as is the norm for humans. But is not at peace with this situation. Of course the first step ought to be counselling. There is a big WHY that needs to be understood. But what is the priority? The desired goal? What is in the child's best interest? That is a question more difficult than it seems.

I would call that another non-answer.

If someone cuts off part of your child's penis that's okay because God I guess ordained that.
It was in line with the stupid argument presented.

EDIT: I edited the OP because some were deliberately “misunderstanding” the original OP.

Am I correct in assuming that by "misunderstanding" you mean that people were correctly pointing out that some Christians actually require the removal of perfectly healthy body parts.

If your child, with two healthy arms, came to you and said they felt they needed a third arm, would you support surgery to have an arm attached?

Actually the original OP was more reasonable, because some people really do choose to have body parts removed. In fact there would seem to be a corresponding physical cause. It's not something that someone chooses to do because they saw it on Tik Tok or reality TV. But for some reason you seem to think that kids can be unduly influenced into thinking that they feel out of sync with their outward sexual appearance. Although this may be possible, I don't think that it's true in the vast majority of cases. In the same way that people don't choose to become pedophiles because the priest at their local church was a pedophile. In fact, in that case you might actually advocate for the removal of a certain body part.

I can find no cases in which someone chose to have a body part added. Perhaps you should go back to the OP as originally presented. As flawed as it was. Or simply accept the fact that Gender Dysphoria is a real thing, not just a fad. The world would probably be a much better place if you did.

As far as I'm concerned, when it comes to sex... you're all weird. I fail to understand the obsession with it, but I long ago gave up on trying to figure out why God would create such irrational creatures. But hey... He's God, He can do whatever He wants to.
