Except for the President of the United States... so I'd say the government is very much involved.
Pleased list all the NDA's signed by the President after he took office.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA non disclosure agreement are not new nor unique with this President.

They are not new to political staffs

They are not new to corporate jobs

Why does this make the news?

People who work in the Executive Branch do not work for the president. He is their boss, but they work for the American people. He cannot have them sign a piece of paper that prevents them from reporting on their non-classified work activities to the American people. These "non-disclosure" forms will not hold up in court.

People who work in the Executive Branch do so at the pleasure of the President. They report to the President, they are put into place by the President and can be removed by the President for any reason.

Even White House butlers and staff sign non disclosure.

Many people who work in the Executive Branch do so at the pleasure of the President, not all of them. However, none of them owe ultimate loyalty to the President. When you take a job like that you swear an oath to the Constitution, not to the President.

He can have everyone who walks into the building sign a non-disclosure, that doesn't mean they won't hold up in court. Do you actually think that if a member of his staff were to answer a question that he doesn't want them to answer — to the media or the Congress — that a court would uphold that a President can gag his entire Administration for life about what happened in his White House?

Trump is a stupid person. The craven people who work for him realize this, and so they placate him with things like this. That doesn't mean that what he's doing will stand up in the court of law.

Didn't get too far into the article, did you?

It is routine for White House officials to be required to sign confidentiality documents acknowledging that they may not publicly disclose classified information to people who do not have the proper clearance.

Beyond classified information, however, several senior officials who worked for Mr. Obama said they were never asked to sign a broader confidentiality agreement during their time in the White House.

Working at the pleasure of the President means he can fire you whenever he wants. It doesn't mean that you can be held for damages for leaking non-classified information, particularly after you've left that government job.

And the President has the right to private things remaining private.

It’s not against first amendment rights. They don’t have to work there if they don’t like the rules

Ask the employees of Google and Facebook who are tracked daily including phone calls and social networks.

The discussions that a president has with his advisers related to public policy and the functioning of his administration are not "private things".

Ask the employees of Google and Facebook who are tracked daily including phone calls and social networks.

Google and Facebook are not the government. The First Amendment specifically prevents a government actor from preventing someone from engaging in free speech, with some exceptions related to national security and possibility of immediate public harm from speech. The president is a government actor.

First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Don’t know how you got your post from that. But plainly you are incorrect.

You have every right to speak freely and the President has every right to drop you like a hot rock.

Opinion | Trump had senior staff sign nondisclosure agreements. They’re supposed to last beyond his presidency.
Trump has ensured that all whitehouse staff are bound by non disclosure agreements making them liable for millions in damages if they talk not only during his presidency but for life.

Highly doubt, any court would give these agreements, the time of day.

People can have others sign whatever they like, if the agreement doesn't hold legal scrutiny, they aren't worth the paper they are written on.

I know a half dozen Google employees. One is a privacy advocate and old friend. I'd like to think he would have mentioned Google tracking every aspect of his life...

Standard practice in the federal government.Don't see anything unusual in it.

It's not...I work for the federal government right now and for the past 10+ years. There's security clearances and policies related to those...but no non-disclosure agreements.

In fact, such a thing would be in direct contradiction to whistleblower protections.

Well, that's the point, isn't it? The last thing Donald needs is more whistleblowers.... not with Mueller listening so intently.

Trump's lawyers have enforced NDA's for decades. Do you have a court reference with regard to them not being enforceable?

If challenged in court, each NDA would stand on it's own merits. If they are written in such a manner, that they exceed what is legally acceptable, the judge will basically throw out the NDA and or, only allow certain parts of the document, to be valid.
