I'll say... The main flaw being that this isn't even a good show & tell project for a sixth grader.

Well I did try to use it one time --- and an atheist drowned trying to disprove it.

So I only do it on the blackboard now.

No, thanks. There are some things that scientists "discovered" that are already mentioned in the Bible, albeit in seed form. So while the scientist would like to associate his name with some of these laws, theories, or whatever they'll be called tomorrow, the Bible was way ahead of him.
Riight...like pi = 3.

Of the three mentioned - the Water Canopy.

An application is a consequence of a particular theory that is useful to mankind. For example, light can be reflected by mirrors. Therefore a periscope can be used to see above the water's surface by submarines.

If I were a subversive student and asked: "How has the idea of the vapor canopy successfully benefitted mankind?" how would you answer? Is there any feature of the earth's surface which is more successfully modeled by a vapor canopy model than by any other model?

RichardT, what falsifiable claims does creationism make? Maybe about 5 would be enough - taking 2 hours over 1 claim would make for more than a good month's work. Especially, something that can be pitched to the level of say a 8th or 9th grader. (At what level do your teens learn about evolution?)

For one thing, it refracted the rays of the sun and distributed them evenly over the Earth. This provided a global tropical paradise, that was instrumental in longevity.

After the Flood, and the polar ice caps appeared, the dinosaurs couldn't adapt to the new climate, and eventually died out.

This period of time, shortly after the Flood, is what scientists refer to as the "Ice Age".

Secondly, of course, the water was instrumental in the execution of God's judgement, which ended the dispensation of CONSCIENCE, and paved the way for the next dispensation --- HUMAN GOVERNMENT.

I'm sure the polar bears, penguins, and all the other arctic animals were thrilled...

There has been more than one Ice age you know?

What I like about this exercise is that sooner or later, falsifiable claims pop out all over the place. A physics syllabus on electromagnetism has to include Coulomb's Law, for example, and Coulomb's Law is falsifiable. Maxwell's equations are falsifiable. Le Chatelier's Principle is falsifiable.

When it boils down to the nitty gritty we should find that there are simply not enough falsifiable predictions in creation science to come up with a workable syllabus for it. (Note that this, too, is a falsifiable prediction. I would have no problem designing a syllabus on "How to handle creationist pseudoscience!")

For example your suggestions on water canopy theory. A water canopy would not successfully refract the sun's beams to cover the whole planet (though the greenhouse effect might have done Noah all the way to a toasty 50 degrees Celsius) and a rapid post-Flood Ice Age would not explain the tremendous fossil evidence of a successful and diverse Ice Age ecology. So there goes one set of applications.

Me too.

And how did the polar ice caps form?

I don't know --- I imagine since the sun's rays were less direct now, and the upper latitudes started experiencing 6 months of night and 6 months of daylight, the temperature spiked downward.

The ice at first came as far south as the Terminal Moraine (due possibly to the ground being saturated with water from the Flood), then receded as the Earth settled in to its new multi-climate existence.

And how did all the other animals besides the dinosaurs adapt to the new climate?

Again I'm not sure, but my guess is by simple adaptation, and living during a time when the gene pool was much "purer" was a big boost also.

There has been more than one Ice age you know?

Yes, I know; but these were mini-ice ages; and nothing like THE Ice Age. The History Channel just did an excellent special on this subject.

Au contraire.

The ionosphere refracts radio signals all over the earth at night. As the ionosphere thins out at night, the angle of refraction widens, causing what is known as skip distance. This "phenomenon" is what allows a person living in Los Angeles to clearly pick up an AM radio station from Detroit, while a person just 100 miles west of Detroit can't tune in to the same station.

...and a rapid post-Flood Ice Age would not explain the tremendous fossil evidence of a successful and diverse Ice Age ecology.

The lack of evidence to support something in the Bible, or the existence of evidence against something in the Bible, is not a concern. God operates on faith - not sight.

Evidence can be manipulated, and the Devil can easily do so - as is going to be demonstrated during the Tribulation when he makes a statue appear to come alive.

What about them?

They proved the flood was global.

Why would birds get on the Ark, if the Flood was just a local one? And why was Noah aboard the Ark for over a year?

Unfortunately, it is impossible for any species to have survived a global flood as described in Genesis. A population of two can be considered extinct, because there is not enough genetic diversity to propagate the species. Pretty much only water-dwelling species and the bacteria on the ark would have survived (and potentially other small organisms, like insects).

Edit:
Well, there's always the off-chance that one or two of the species on the ark would have been able to survive, but it's still unlikely.

Learning is not feeding a student what works. It is trying to urge the student to find out what DOESNT work.

Greetings and Salutations,

My high school mathematics teacher would always keep a quotation on her board, to remind us of a certain precept:

"Spoon feeding in the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon." -- E.M. Forster
