I'm growing out of my metal phase but no matter how far I move away from metal, this song and a few others will always stick with me as examples of excellent song-writing skills and musicianship that transcend genre.
Even if you don't like metal, listen to this song just one time through and tell me what you think. Specifically, pay attention to the way the guitars play off of each other. Throw on a pair of good headphones if you have them. If you don't like the voice, try to tune it out. If you don't like the sound of the guitars, try to imagine what this song would sound like if it was being played by an orchestra. I think the music would lend it self very well to strings and brass.
