Sheeesh - there are some nuts out there. I'm trying to help someone in the advice forum that says her boyfriend and pastor have told her that her mental illness is a sin or demon, or something like that......and there is a spiritual warfare person posting who thinks that demons can be indwelling in a Christian.
Yeah - I'm what you could call frustrated.

Ugh...one thing that frustrated me so much when I was Pentecostal was this idea that there was a demon behind every negative thing in one's life. If you struggled with anger, you had a "spirit of anger" attached to you...meaning an actual anger demon. If you had experienced any type of abandonment in your childhood...you had an abandonment demon...and you had to be delivered. There was a loneliness demon, an alcohol demon, a rejection demon...everything had a demon.

Not all of the churches that I attended taught this...but I noticed it creeping in more and more as the years went by.

And the whole idea that metal illness is somehow sin related...well...I found that in a lot of churches...not just Pentecostal. People think that you are not spiritual enough, or not praying enough, or not depending on Jesus enough. In the Baptist church that I attended I was actually told that I shouldn't take meds for my depression and anxiety disorder because God sends suffering into our lives to help sanctify us, and if I did anything to alleviate that suffering I was short-circuiting God.

Illness is sin related as in 'original sin', not a sin I did or that the illness is a sin.

What people seem to forget is that God sends people and medications to treat our illnesses, including mental illnesses.

I know so many people who are people of strong faith you deal with mental illness. If praying enough, or reading the Bible enough, or . . . , none of us would need medications, but it was when God put people or events in our lives which helped us to see the need for treatment and taking our meds is when our prayers were answered.

My son has a demon. The other day he came laughing histerically, it sounded like Daffy Duck, running out of his room, did four laps around the coffee table then ran back into his room. We haven't seen the cat sense.

Ugh....

A certain person as started a thread in a certain forum for the sole purpose of responding to stuff that we are saying here...because she isn't being allowed to debate us here. She is posting links to various posts and then posting her responses.

This just doesn't seem right to me. It seems very underhanded.

Reminds me of Elysa's 'Just You Wait Henry Higgins' routine in My Fair Lady. It's interesting how a one-way conversation like that serves the purpose of the single speaker in the conversation, benefits no one else, glorifies only self.:sigh:

And rather baiting - I'm not going to even look at it. Our words get so twisted that it would just tick me off and I don't need that.

I went to that thread and read the ground rules for participation in that thread. Here they are:

This thread is open to responses from this forum's NonDenominational members ONLY (Brown Cross). This thread was not created for the purpose of debate but rather to be an answer to those who do not understand NonDenominational Christians. No opinion expressed by a NON ND will be addressed, or replied to by ANYONE and the MODS will be asked to remove it.

In the course of reading that thread, Jerushabelle again promotes works righteousness as the way to be saved. ND's deny their churches teach this, yet every ND person who has been here has taught we must do something to be saved, God can't just save us, we need to help Him out. They are in denial about what they believe and now seek to misrepresent those who would dare oppose them and ignore and have removed by the moderators any attempt at leading them to the truth. It's so sad. :sigh:

The thing that bothers me is that she says that she doesn't want a debate...she only wants to respond to us...BUT...she doesn't want any responses from us. She wants the last word.

I am soooooooo tempted to start the thread here that only Lutherans can respond to...and link to her posts from her thread and respond to her. But I don't think it is worth my time or effort.

We don't need to sink to their level. They came here claiming they wanted answers when what most of them really wanted was a fight. They didn't get that, and now are crying about how they were so mistreated over here and licking their wounds to the point that they now have to slam us to make themselves feel better. They're a waste of our time as evidenced by their recent actions. I don't know why the ND's want to go to war with the Lutherans. We tend to keep to ourselves and not go to other forums and tell those people they're wrong.

I also find it interesting that she is speaking for non-denominational churches as if they were all the same. There is so much variety amoung non-denominational churches in doctrine and practice.

A few people have mentioned that fact, that ND churches vary greatly in what they teach. But it's really very simple, go to an ND church, pick up your cafeteria tray and then pick and choose that which you want to believe, because in the end, regardless of what they say, it actually is all about them.

It looks like they sent "offensive" back over here to taunt us some more. This is getting more weird each day.

I was told by a poster in the advice forum that I'm Lutheran and we don't have anything in common for for me to be of help to him.
I had to report him for his last post since it was clearly out of line and he has used up all his leeway as far as I'm concerned.

I'm surprised about the advice forum response. A lot of people seem to have some very strange ideas about Lutheranism. What was the topic of the thread?
