I don't think that happiness is the only emotion worth experiencing.

By the way, this is a good thread. It's got me thinking about a few things.

What other emotions are worth experiencing? You could say love, but isn't the end result of love normally extreme happiness anyway?

Now, if the drug didn't put me in a vegetative state and I was still able to function fairly normally I'd certainly consider it. But then I have believed for a long time that we should put MDMA in the water supply. :p On the other hand, maybe functioning on that sort of drug would be worse...you'd probably end up broke having given everything away in a moment of joyful generosity and wake up after 10 years married to someone who, viewed in sobriety, is neither attractive nor interesting.

I think the real question is, would you "do drugs" if it had no negative implications? I can't see myself taking that drug. I know ten years of absolute bliss is good and all but I think I'd have trouble giving up those ten years of life in the first place knowing that I wouldn't actually be doing anything with them. Plus, coming out of that ten year high would be a bit of a bummer - "great, I'm not high anymore, just old."

Has someone been watching Brain Candy a few too many times?:D

I'd never heard of it till just now. I looked up the plot just now, so I can see why you might think I might have shamelessly stole their idea.. I didn't though, cross my heart and hope to die :)
