If the US General Election Is Delayed, Does Pelosi Become President?
It’s true that the speaker of the house is next in the line of succession after the president and vice president. Some trolled Trump by pointing out that fact, as Trump has a vitriolic relationship with Pelosi, the California Democrat who currently holds that seat. After the house speaker, the next in line would be the Senate president pro-tempore, said Edward Foley, an election law expert at Ohio State University, in a phone interview.

But all 435 members of the House, including Pelosi, and a total of 35 senators are up for reelection in 2020. The remaining 65 senators would be majority Democrats.

So delaying the election wouldn’t necessarily mean Trump stays in office past the end of his term, and it wouldn’t necessarily mean Pelosi would assume the office of president. But it would also raise the likelihood that the senator who does assume office would be selected by the remaining sitting senators, who would be majority Democrats.
tulc(thinks 2020 is an interesting year)

No, she wouldn't. Even if the election were delayed, Trump still remains president until January 20, when he'd be either sworn in again for a second term, or give way to someone else, presumably Biden. The timing of an election may change by ordinary legislation passed by Congress, but presidential terms are constitutionally fixed.

Mine was just a "blind post". :) I don't know why anyone would ever think Pelosi would become pres in that situation.

SNOPES???

Not a news source, not one of the talking heads, but SNOPES?

You owe me a keyboard, because I spit my coffee all over this one. It was a hearty laugh though....

You were unwise enough to drink the coffee. tulc is not responsible just because he sets a bad example by doing that in excess.

Pelosi, my or your future, even the next moment, are not guaranteed.

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matt 6:33-34

The question that should be asked is: If the results of the mail in election are challenged in court for accuracy etc. How long will Trump remain in office? I could see court decisions taking years, so Trump may get the last laugh at the Dems who think that the mail in vote gives them the advantage. May just be another event on the long list of the Dems finding ways to self destruct.

Seeing more of that everyday.
Just look around.
Need not look far.

Postpone the Election? That Could Mean President Biden

It is interesting.
First, Trump can't delay the election. Congress would have to approve it and the Senate Republicans won't and neither will the House.

Two, it will backfire on him if the election is after Jan. 20th.
Trump and Pence and all senators who are up for reelection are simply out of a job. Along with the entire House. They were only sworn until Jan. 20, 2021. That eventually leaves the Senate Pro Tem as in charge of the country and since more Republican Senators are having elections this year, it will leave the Dems in the majority and the Senate Pro Tem will be a Dem. I think it will be Sen. Leahy?
This is probably why McConnell flatly said no.

Till Jan 20th. Then he's not President anymore. As an aside, they can then charge him with the things they couldn't charge him for while he was a sitting President. So you might want to save that whole "last laugh" thing for some other time. :sorry:

The courts would have a voice in deciding what would be done, likely everyone would stay where they are until the election is decided.

And since there is nothing to charge him with and since the courts will have to decide if he stays in office if the election is undecided I will not concern myself with any of your comments.

Folks like Gorsuch go by the plain reading of the law. The 20th Amendment:

The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.
Trump, per the constitution, cannot delay the election. Congress has to do it - and they will not.

uhmmm...no, this isn't something they can "just decide" come Jan 20, he's not President. So, you might want to A) check out the 20 Amendment of the Constitution and B) hold off on the whole "last laugh" thing.

I will not concern myself with any of your comments.
Doesn't matter, just giving you a heads up.

Do we not know by now that the courts are not predictable?

If you do not understand by now that all things are ultimately decided by the courts you have not been watching the news. As soon as anyone dislikes the election results there will be a court case started and it will go on from there.

So...because President Trump obviously doesn't expect to win the election he's setting up his excuses for trying to challenge it?
