I think of children who are born without a brain, or at least most of it. Most die from it, I know, but some survive. However, in most cases the brain stem can take care of basic functions and the plasticity of the (compressed) cortex material allows a degree of adaptation. Scans presented out of context create a false impression of the amount of brain material present. This is done either through incompetence of the commentators, or deliberate lies for sensationalist purposes.
