If man is evolving, why is there still war?

Man is of a dual nature. Both good and evil are a part of his destination. Only a fool would be believe that good would triumph and completely defeat the evil that is also evolving. Some would even say that good is a handicap preventing us from obtaining complete satufaction.

One of your renown scientists, Thomas Malthus, would disagree.

One person. First, I don't particularly care about an appeal to an authority. Again I'll say Barack Obama can say "2 times 2 equal 6" I mean he's the president, how could he be wrong? I mean he's served in the senate and in the oval office. But that doesn't change my understanding of basic arithmetic.

Second, he's a scientist, you didn't even say social scientist. I don't know how much this scientist knows about social constructs. So if you can show me where this one person disagrees with me (which isn't credible as a refutation) I could get a better understanding of how.

Third, what is YOUR view on this?

Third, what is YOUR view on this?

I thought I already expressed my view on this?

James 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Since our sin nature resides in our flesh, war is a byproduct of our sin nature.

So you think through the bible? How about using your reasoning, away from the bible, to formulate your answer.

You can do that right? Otherwise it seems as though you don't actually know.

Technically it's a mistake to try and disarm a Christian saint.

Since his spiritual armor (Ephesians 6) consists of a sword (the Bible) and a shield (his faith); then disarming him would cause him to use his shield for defense.

So if you want "Well, that's what I believe," as your answer, then sure, I'll lay my Bible aside and give you what you want.

We all go to what we consider an authority when searching for truth. You do not form your life views from simply reviewing your own experiences. Truth is truth. no matter where its found. And on this sibject, both the bible and science will agree that our nature is not evovoling toward complete goodness.

If anything we are becoming more efficient at doing evil.

I don't go running to an authority to make a decision. Because who does that authority go to? I judge and make decisions based on knowledge. The easiest way to trivialize your assertion is asking myself if I want coffee or an energy drink. Or if I'm asked paper or plastic? It has such a weak nearly non-existent foundation that pretty much no one will do that

But if you forgot this bible passage. Just say you caught a bit of amnesia. Could you formulate an opinion on war being a social construct without the bible?

Isn't that their job?
What happens when I eventually become the authority and someone answers to me? I still have to make decisions.

So when I'm a father or say an old sibling (which I am) in order to make a decision, is all the knowledge I know and all the experience I have pertaining to the request asked of me irrelevant and I therefore should only seek an authority to make an informed decision? Then doesn't that infinite regress? With this model you strip every authority on the planet.

Also as an unrelated note: Are you a fan of DC Comics by any chance?

Yes.

I'm a big fan of the Justice League of America from the old Stan Lee days.

I know every member and their alter egos and weaknesses, and I can recite the Green Lantern's power up mantra.

"In brightest day, in blackest night ..."

And although I don't really care for Marvel Comics, I know the old Spider Man song.

I figured as much. I saw you said you were from Earth One. I'm also a big fan of DC. Favorite being the Martian Manhunter. Great guy, tragic his people died. I also have a poster of Superman on my wall.

I'm not too big on Marvel as of recent. They've been plagued by bad writing for years and I think Sentry and Thanos are just awful characters of storytelling.

I saw you said you were from Earth One.

Well, Earth One in this case refers to this Earth, as opposed to the New Earth that I will be spending eternity on.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

Cool!

The Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) is my favorite.

Jesus defeated the bad already. Done deal. It just takes time to play out. No evolving or chance evolved.

Biblical events didn't happen long ago.
Nothing much happened before Adam. The bible covers it all.

War in the bible, war in the present. The human population has evolved, but not that much.
There is more war now I would think. Notice the world is going nuts?

This forum moves really fast. Faster than I originally thought I've gotta catch up.

Anyway. War is a social construct.

No. It is a heart condition of mankind aided and abetted by dark evil forces.

I've explained this to you already, social constructs are at the mercy of their creator.
No they are at the mercy of THE creator! Your idea that it is all random and under control of man is wrong.

Like say literature for example. There is an established literature construct in all society reading words from left to right and top to bottom.

So? Not in China apparently.

In your method of "evolving" we'd have to all agree to say, read words from right to left and bottom to top. Then we've "evolved" out of that previous stage. A good example of this actually happening is Japanese Manga which still reads words from left to right but paces its books from right to left page wise.

You can't run too far with this reading parable attempt.
War is the exact same way. It exists outside of natural means as a social construct.

No. Once outside the natural guess what we get into? Supernatural!
An individual can "evolve" out of wanting to war
No. He can't! Man can put a mask on his heart, and try to be nice, but when push comes to shove, the sin beast comes out.

but that doesn't make war go away. We'd all have to come together and redefine war for that to happen because it's not natural. It's our creation.
No. War is not our creation, it is a symptom of sin. It comes with the territory.

Birds don't go to war, and if they did, we couldn't ask them why.
No one suggests they do (yet) and it is rude to miss the point of what was said, since it was simple. Claims are made that animal behavior is due to evolution. Why a certain diet now exists or habit..etc etc.

You're right, dad -- war doesn't make a lot of sense in the evolutionary scheme.

So you admit that evolution has no explainin power for the biggest trait of man. OK. I agree.

How many of those men throughout history, if asked, would've given "the Bible" as an answer why they did it?
How many wouldn't if they thought some sucker would buy it?

That doesn't explain war. Do you think we inherited that from monkeys? Obviously not. Man is getting worse and worse in the war dept, so that must be evolving, no?

Dad, Are you sure?

In the biological world, say in mammals Ego, our false greedy biased side
evolved as a beautiful and potent mechanism to enhance individual
(hence species) survival.

eg a Hyenal killing for her pups and pack and integrating with the group.

In humans with the addition of our reflective mind, the ego has been ramped up
as if on steroids. The playing field is desire and the rewards are for the brave.

War is caused by greed for resources in a finite world.
While we have this system of software installed in our minds there will be war.

That is 'ego'?

Who wrote that rule of the universe?
War is caused by greed for resources in a finite world.
Now you are getting close.

While we have this system of software installed in our minds there will be war.

Sin cannot be uninstalled except by Jesus.
