• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If I keep praying to Jesus to save me,does he reject me?

Since His sheep listen to His words in the gospels, you can do that if you truly listen to His words as you read them: John 10:27 My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.

So, you can start by listening to Him, in a very full way. To just read what He says, and truly listen, with all of your mind/heart:

Here's a good place to start: Matthew 3 NIV
When you get to chapter 5, slow down and take your time. It's not the goal to read through and finish....but to stay with His words, to keep listening. So, some days I could read a chapter, but in some of these chapters I could only read a few verses in a whole day, and had to just stop and dwell with those words.

Christ does hear us, and on the other hand sometimes we have to take a moment, and listen. You're doing the right thing by praying as we establish a relationship with Christ as we pray. So never stop praying.

In addition you are one of His flock. It may sound cliché, but John 3:16 answers that perfectly. You clearly believe in Him since you pray to Him. Remember the evil one will try to sew doubt in us to try to get us to stray from Christ, but don't let that happen. When that goes to happen call out to Christ in prayer, and ask for His help! Know that Christ loves us, and he showed us this by allowing Him self to be crucified by mere men even though He was God so as to save us.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.

Your question sounds like something George Clark Rankin would have asked 150 years before you…

The Life of George Clark Rankin

And some excerpts to the story… After we went home I tossed on the bed before going to sleep and wondered why God did not do for me what he had done for mother and what he was doing in that meeting for those young people at the altar. I could not understand it. But I resolved to keep on trying, and so dropped off to sleep. The next day I had about the same experience and at night saw no change in my condition. And so for several nights I repeated the same distressing experience. The meeting took on such interest that a day service was adopted along with the night exercises, and we attended that also. And one morning while I bowed at the altar in a very disturbed state of mind Brother Tyson, a good local preacher and the father of Rev. J. F. Tyson, now of the Central Conference, sat down by me and, putting his hand on my shoulder, said to me: "Now I want you to sit up awhile and let's talk this matter over quietly. I am sure that you are in earnest, for you have been coming to this altar night after night for several days. I want to ask you a few simple questions." And the following questions were asked and answered:

"My son, do you not love God?"

"I cannot remember when I did not love him."

"Do you believe on his Son, Jesus Christ?"

"I have always believed on Christ. My mother taught me that from my earliest recollection."

"Do you accept him as your Savior?"

"I certainly do, and have always done so."

"Can you think of any sin that is between you and the Savior?"

"No, sir; for I have never committed any bad sins."

"Do you love everybody?"

"Well, I love nearly everybody, but I have no ill-will toward any one. An old man did me a wrong not long ago and I acted ugly toward him, but I do not care to injure him."

"Can you forgive him?"

"Yes, if he wanted me to."

"But, down in your heart, can you wish him well?"

"Yes, sir; I can do that."

"Well, now let me say to you that if you love God, if you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior from sin and if you love your fellowmen and intend by God's help to lead a religious life, that's all there is to religion. In fact, that is all I know about it."

Then he repeated several passages of Scriptures to me proving his assertions. I thought a moment and said to him: "But I do not feel like these young people who have been getting religion night after night. I cannot get happy like them. I do not feel like shouting."

The good man looked at me and smiled and said: "Ah, that's your trouble. You have been trying to feel like them. Now you are not them; you are yourself. You have your own quiet disposition and you are not turned like them. They are excitable and blustery like they are. They give way to their feelings. That's all right, but feeling is not religion. Religion is faith and life. If you have violent feeling with it, all good and well, but if you have faith and not much feeling, why the feeling will take care of itself. To love God and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, turning away from all sin, and living a godly life, is the substance of true religion."

That was new to me, yet it had been my state of mind from childhood. For I remembered that away back in my early life, when the old preacher held services in my grandmother's house one day and opened the door of the Church, I went forward and gave him my hand. He was to receive me into full membership at the end of six months' probation, but he let it pass out of his mind and failed to attend to it.

As I sat there that morning listening to the earnest exhortation of the good man my tears ceased, my distress left me, light broke in upon my mind, my heart grew joyous, and before I knew just what I was doing I was going all around shaking hands with everybody, and my confusion and darkness disappeared and a great burden rolled off my spirit. I felt exactly like I did when I was a little boy around my mother's knee when she told of Jesus and God and Heaven. It made my heart thrill then, and the same old experience returned to me in that old country Church that beautiful September morning down in old North Georgia.

I at once gave my name to the preacher for membership in the Church, and the following Sunday morning, along with many others, he received me into full membership in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. It was one of the most delightful days in my recollection. It was the third Sunday in September, 1866, and those Church vows became a living principle in my heart and life. During these forty-five long years, with their alternations of sunshine and shadow, daylight and darkness, success and failure, rejoicing and weeping, fears within and fightings without, I have never ceased to thank God for that autumnal day in the long ago when my name was registered in the Lamb's Book of Life.

There is something to be said about vain repetition, but that some repetition is vain doesn't imply all repetition is vain.

Repetition could help or harm someone with OCD. Some will take it to extreme habitual patterns that are not helpful at all. On the other hand, if you're strategic about your habit forming, to contradict and fight the OCD, repetition can be necessary.

If, for instance, you have frequent intrusive thoughts accusing you of some sin, let's say blasphemy, you could counteract this by praying an intentionally contradictory prayer, praising God and asking for forgiveness. I've had to form several prayers for that purpose, it did seem as if my prayers weren't being answered for a while, and God did eventually start to answer me. Now the prayers are second-nature and I don't even feel the need to pray them like I used to. If you don't, the intrusive thoughts will still probably drive some repetitive habit, which may not be beneficial.

Matthew 5:21--Matthew 7:28 is the Law for the Kingdom of Heaven.

John 14:15-16 If ye love Me, keep My Commandments and I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

(first "he" doesn't exist, the second "he" is "this-person")

and otherwise parakletos... to-give you that abide with you ..in .this-person eternal

(parakletos = an intercessor, consoler:--advocate, comforter.)

It's all Greek to me... so I'm learning Greek. Some people's minds work differently.
If your mind needs something to focus on, find out what the words were in Greek.

... this is a prime example of why TULIP Calvinism is harmful. Yeah, I said it.

Take heart, Blaise N. I am praying that the Lord will comfort and heal you through this dark time of constant worry and doubt that you suffer.

You might be able to help yourself if you depart from electionism, and walk in another direction. Since you are experiencing an allergic reaction to this type of environment and teachings, it obvious that this is not beneficial for you.

The teachings of the bible are meant to be encouraging to the spirit inside a person. However, your body is freaking out, which means the way the teachings are being absorbed is in a manner that sows to the flesh/body. The body then reacts thinking it isn't saved, and rightly so, Jesus saves our soul, He does not zombie us. The scripture isn't for your body it's for your spirit, to edify it.

If you are getting a fear reaction from the teachings of the bible, the wrong part of you is absorbing the teachings. You need to learn how to make use of the spiritual food that scripture is.

The body/flesh is hostile to all things of God, including scripture. So I would recommend to find a tradition that helps you instead of hurts you.

Based on the frequency that you post about this same issue, having comrades nearby to assist and pray with you is important.

Yes, there is hope for you. I'll let Jesus speak for himself.

I find in some environments the Holy Spirit's presence is stifled or completely blocked out. They claim to be a church, but whatever. Stop attending, and notice over time how your ability to hear God's voice improves.

Afterwards, only attend places that do not undermine your communication with God, or receipt of blessings from God.

Brother the sheep and the goat live within you. In your sheep you are afraid, oppressed, lost, imprisoned, enslaved, threatened, scorned, ridiculed, mocked, condemned, and killed in your good life by the goats, those forces who make you doubt Jesus and bring you those moments of unbelief, so they keep you away from Jesus rather than find safety in His loving truth.

So each time you ask Jesus to save you, in whatever mood or state of mind you are, Jesus will save you, without a doubt! However in those feelings of doubt and unbelief you don't experience the love of Jesus, for the truth says that those who doubt the Lord will receive nothing from The Lord.

Can you see how the division within goes? In some parts of yourself you already have faith and trust in Jesus, and you love Him and want to serve Him. However in other parts of yourself this still needs to happen. In those sheep you are still lost and you still need to let The good shepherd find you.

When i was i your position,, when i believed in Jesus but did not know Him yet, then my whole inner being was divided by sin, lies and other bad life which had grown into my heart over the years.

i found that whenever i feared my salvation i was a sheep, and that Jesus really wanted to save me from the bad life that had control over me there, the goats, but that i had to ask God for faith in Him to set me free from sin entangling me, and not keep doubting Him to be true in my life. Faith grows Jesus' loving truth in us!

So i prayed for faith! i also asked Jesus to give me a God loving and people loving heart, because i know it is essential that we grow in His loving true. And so God brought all of that alive in my heart as the goats in me died from lack of attention, for i learned to completely ignore them and have trust in Jesus instead.

This is what is happening to you now brother. Jesus living in you calls you, you have a desire within to be saved, and then the goats living in you bombard you with thoughts and feelings keeping you away from believing that you are saved.

The trick is to have faith and grow having faith. So please brother, don't try and improve yourself by yourself, just learn to have faith in Jesus, each time you do, His good life will come down in your heart, so simply keep growing faith.

That is the same for you in self where you are still enslaved to sin, faith in God's loving truth sets you free from sinful wrongs and sin will die in you as His love grows in you, that is how you fight sin, not trying not to sin, for that doesn't work for the devil gets us to do it instead of us letting Christ do it.

To learn to love God instead of dread Him brother that is the aim. i used to be petrified of God because of my sins, that is what heeding those rotten goats brought me, terror, but no salvation ever. So i learned to trust His grace and let His love into my heart where i was stuck with sin, and to my amazement i saw that sins dies when His love grows. For when we love God then we don't want to sin, that is where we have to get to, loving God for His grace and for setting us free from our sins. Every day some more.

We grow in faith when we exercise it!

That is the battle to believe the truth - all who call on the name of the Lord to be saved shall be saved Scripture teaches - so those thoughts and feelings within you who tell you that you are not elect, chosen, and a child of God's kingdom, those thoughts and feelings who bring you doubt and unbelief, they are the goats who are trying to keep you away from God's love. They will be judged for doing the evil they do, they never fear not being elect, they don't love God or you, they always lie about God, us and others. The are the wicked we need to be saved from.

So ask God The Father for faith in His truth and let The Truth set you free from all your bad life pressing.

Keep calling out to Jesus to save you, and keep striving to believe that He has, until the enemy dies within you because you no longer heed their lies, and they can no longer feed from your life and starve within you.

That is how you need to be saved, His faith growing within you. So be of good courage, in all those parts of your life where you love God and people, and serve Him according to the truth of the word, you are saved already. While in all those parts where you are still stuck with sin, and/or other bad life, Jesus still loves to save you, and set you free when you learn to have life in His loving truth instead of in the fear and dread of God.

So call out to Jesus and keep calling out. Each time faith, love or hope grow within you, you may know more of God's truth lives within you.

Life in God's loving truth is awesome brother. i so hope you let faith in Jesus lead you there.

Peace.

Feasting My Good Life.

The Wicked captivated my truth
the truth of my heart and mind
and wound me around their lies
knotted me out of my own reality
into the dungeons of torture below.

Unable to unravel their cob webs
the wicked took control of my life
and brought much pain and misery
feasting on my God given good life
at the expense of my own welfare.

Yet when Christ light lit up my night
and i saw Him on the clouds of heaven
The Wicked sprung all their traps
thinking i was as good as dead
trapped in their nasty fowler's nets.

Yet the Lion of the tribe of Judea
killed the goats great and small
and set me free from their control
and gave me back my freedom in Him
feasting good times growing New Life.

Jesus would never reject those who come top Him. Confess before Him that you struggle with faith, and ask Him to strengthen your faith, so that you'll know you are saved. We have to ask for the things we want, and that is a perfectly valid thing. Just ask.
