If you were to show up and do all that at the churches I attended in my childhood, you probably would have come close to ending up in the hospital.

In one church, I surmise that the pastor would have summoned all the men of the church to physically make you leave; You would be asked to not come back.

At another church, the pastor would have no doubt pointed his finger in your face and "slightly raise his voice" until he turned white and breathless, then he would've asked you to leave and be about the "devils business".

And at yet another church, the pastor's son (assistant pastor) would have taken you into his office, thrown you against the wall and hit you over the head with a bible, perhaps he would've broken your nose--as he once did to a teen who refused to go on a "soul-winning" trip-- then he would have had several people testify for him that he did not touch you. You would be welcomed back as long as you repeated the sinner's prayer, publically apologized to everyone in the congregation, then got baptized so that they could add you to their church statistics in order to brag about how many baptisms and sinners' prayers took place because of them.

I do not know what kind of Baptist church you attend, but those are some pretty incredible stories. Did you change churches? Did you lose your faith because of these events?

Wow, that's kinda' scary. I'd get out of there as soon as I could. I would not want you to disobey your parents, but I would like to see you safe and getting fed the way the Lord intended.

Currently, I don't have a church.
I did come close to dumping Christianity.
But because of the RENEWING power of the Christ, I did became a Christian in spite of horrible Baptist church experiences -- even one with Baptist beliefs. :)

PM me with your state and city, and I will help you find a good church. My brother is a pastor and he has contacts all over the country. He has recommended several churches to CF members here. No complaints so far, but I will warn you that it will be a fundementalist Baptist church.

OK Talked to Pastor today and this was his answer... )oh and by the way, I work at a Southern Baptist Church that is 77 years old, that still has original founding members that go weekly)

"Remember every Church and every Pastor/Congregation is different. Depending on the location, by-laws, practicing beliefs and the over-all open-ness of a church will give you a much different reaction.
Here at our church we would respect your right to pray and your right to belief as long as it was not disruptive etc. Since many times our members pray on their own during service, before and after and sometimes you can here them say "Amen" "Jesus" etc. it would not be a problem at all, even having a rosery visible.
BUT I have been called to churches in the past where they would probably ask the person to stop and if they choose not to, then they would be asked to remove themselves from the premises,(conflict of belief, disturbing mostly the elders) but I do not think a respectable OR true believer/spirit filled church of any religion would lower themselves to violence or any kind of harshness unless the person was very disruptive, argumentive, loud etc. and it would or at least still be handled in a respectful and mature manner being that you are in fact in a sacred space."

He continued to add that we are quite open minded and open as long as the person believes in Jesus as the savior, that he died on the cross for our sins and rose again.
He would prefer someone only pray, worship to God/Jesus and not to Mary (or anyone else) as most believe to only worship or follow the one true God...otherwise it is false idol worship or something along those lines. He quoted scripture and got indepth, but I did not take notes...LOL

So as far as some who have replied with possibility of violence, physical harm and or public humiliation.. I would not want to be a member of any organization like that anyway, so it would not really matter.

So there is another view for you, but it can be all over the place as far as answers, it all depends on the individual church and the people within.

You'll never find a perfect church. It may take visiting several different churches, but ask God to guide you to find a bible-believing one.

My church is nondenominational but I'm told it is closely related to a Baptist church.

As in any church, if you're disrupting the service, you should be asked to leave. In NY, it would be disorderly conduct, a violation, but an arrestable offense.

NYS Penal Law 240.20
Disorderly conduct.

A person is guilty of disorderly conduct when, with intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof:

(4) Without lawful authority, he disturbs any lawful assembly or meeting of persons;

When I moved cities, I joined a Mother's Group that was run by the local Baptist Church. I went to Bible Study on a regular basis with these women, and became good friends. I used my Catholic Bible for Bible Study, and rarely had problems.

From my experience, the only problem with using a Catholic Bible at a Baptist Bible study is getting thrown off in the chapters of Esther or accidentally turning to Ecclesiasticus instead of Ecclesiastes.

My Bible study in college had Baptists, Lutherans, Catholics, and others...we all had great times of study and fellowship. :)

Oh, but Ecclesiasticus is such a great book. I confess, I am jealous that Catholics have a thicker Bible than me.

Get more "helps" in your Bible.;)

Or larger print:thumbsup:

And maps! You gotta have maps. ;) And thick paper instead of that tissue-paper thin stuff, and maybe some nice pics of the Holy Land.

Well, I do have R.C. Sproul's Reformation Study Bible. Being a Reformed Baptist myself, reading his commentary on the "sacraments" (as opposed to "ordinances") gives me a good enough dose of pseudocatholicism to keep me happy.

But seriously, Sproul is great.

Actually, I have a copy of the King James Apocrypha. I've been thinking about tearing out the pages and stapling them in between my Bible's Old and New Testaments. Of course, then I'd have to write "NOT INSPIRED" on every page...but only in pencil. :sorry:

Where did you get your deuterocanonicals? I've been looking for 'em.

As an interesting side-note, our Baptist church in Austria did read from them in services.
