I'm surprised at how dull parents are, thinking that witchcraft is make believe, certianly Harry Potter movies push you into believing witchcraft is fantasy, but ask any real witch how much fantasy is there is in real witchcraft and you would be amazed. The bible tells you sorcery is an abomination, yet when young Harry does it, and your kid mimics Harry's sorcery you just smile and say "its make believe", I don't understand why anyone would want Harry Potter or any of the twilight actors to be your kids idols, or to be fans of these portayals of characters, that stand against everything God is against. Drinking blood, performing rituals of witchcraft, I don't understand if someone says "I love Jesus and want to please Him", and then they love these shows and movies, which are in complete contradiction to the behavior and character of Christ. How is this possible? is there no discernment between good and evil, because Harry is considered a good sorcerer, right! and in Gods eyes there are no good sorcerers, they all are evil
Have you never read:
Acts 19:13-20
"Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed."
???
A man in whom was an evil spirit basically beat the stuffing out of the seven sons of Sceva who sought to cast it out by adjuring it "by Jesus whom Paul preacheth". All the Jews and Greeks at Ephesus heard of this and they were fearful and Jesus' name was magnified. Many of them not only believed and confessed, but also "shewed their deeds" or brought forth fruits worthy of genuine repentance. Here's the interesting part...
THEY BURNED THEIR BOOKS ON CURIOUS ARTS OR MAGIC AS A DIRECT RESULT OF WHAT HAD TRANSPIRED BETWEEN THE SEVEN SONS OF SCEVA AND THE MAN WITH THE EVIL SPIRIT.
Coincidence? I doubt it. Magic and demons go hand in hand.

They BURNED THEIR MAGIC BOOKS. MAGIC BOOKS which were worth 50,000 PIECES OF SILVER. Judas betrayed Jesus for only 30 pieces of silver. Apparently, these people considered their souls to be of greater value than THEIR MAGIC BOOKS. How about you? There's your scriptural example of what you should do. No one "added their own rules to the Bible" in this regard as you erroneously suggested. Just for the record.
Is it any less different than dragons, that are portrayed in some movies, which are mentioned in both the OT and NT of the Bible ?Hi,
I think the thing we need to remember is that the Bible is based on the real world. If the Harry Potter world were real then it is likely that the Bible would be some what different. Morality is based on Reality and if Reality is different then morality will be different. For example, it is wrong to torture someone, but if the physical act of torture in fact helped healing or even felt good and had little to no negative consequences, then the acts of torture would become moral. So the morality of acts are tied to the reaction the cause to other people and how they relate to Reality/God.
If the Harry Potter world were real then magic wouldn't be based on demons (as the Bible envisions) but rather be based on some sort of law of nature. Magic would therefore become no more immoral than flying is. The reason for the immorality of the action would be gone.
So the magic in Harry Potter isn't the same as the magic the Bible talks of because the source of the magic is different.
One would hope they couple simply appreciate literature that praises selflessness, friendship, loyalty, courage, etc, etc.
I'm taking this thread as a warm-up thread. A few more months and CF will be spammed once again with all those anti-Halloween threads.

actually to be perfectly honest, I'm not afriad of anything anymore, but about fifteen years ago I was demon possessed, to the point where my eyes glowed, you can't even imagine how scary that was, I could feel the worms that never die crawling through my body, I could even see them moving under my skin, yes witchcraft is just loads of fun, channeling spirits, speaking to the dead, and basically being a human ouji board, but I guess when witchcraft becomes this real to a person, I simply don't understand why any Christian would glorify any aspect of it, If the man from the Gerasenes was here to speak with you, who was so full of demons he could rip chains apart, He would also tell you its not make believe, or simply a harmless childhood adventure, its geared to get kids interested in the occult plain and simple. You don't know a single thing about HP and yet you've condemned it???? I believe that's a bit ignorant.
And you're making a joke about casting the spell, which means you acknowledge it is all make believe, and yet you're concerned that its going to destroy your soul???? Do you jump at shadows too?
