On a side note, and spoken like a cynic: isn't it strange how religious leaders have established a tradition of denouncing others who might try to pull the same tricks as they did as impostors and agents of evil?
Christianity denounces potential competitors as "anti-christs", Islam declares that anyone who comes after the "seal of the prophets" must be a fraud, Baha'i makes sure to point out that the next revelation will take at LEAST a thousand years to arrive, etc.

I think we could even find some Non-Abrahamic faiths where this approach is practiced, although it seems to be the most prevalent among the exclusivist, proselytizing monotheisms.

The thing is: truth needs no special protection against competitors - quite the contrary.
Instead of insisting that anybody who challenges or contradicts your teachings should be instantly regarded as a fraud, an enemy, or an impostor, you should encourage people to test your ideas for their veracity, proving their accuracy in the process.
That's how the scientific method handles things, and it has proven to be exceptionally effective at weeding out misconceptions and refining our understanding of reality.
