If forced to, which three inventions would you eliminate from human history?
1. airplane
2. car
3. refrigerator
4. Xray machine
5. TV
6. Computer
7. air conditioner
8. Telescope
9. Compass
10. Clock
Air-conditioning would leave us relatively unscathed since most of human history summers were tolerated without it. So it would be a relatively minor inconvenience, maybe making our trips to the washers more frequent and the increased use of the fan.
Eliminating the clock would pose problems with organizing our lives.
But of the three the more serious consequence would be a world without the Xray because of its importance in medical diagnosis.
There may be pretty awesome dried-bloodcell tests, and urine tests that can tell
more about the body/ insides/ what's going on
than an xray or mri or catscan (who scans a cat anyway, huh?)
Inexpensive and never "inconclusive results" (I saw a lot of those from hospitals - very high dollar mris and such "inconclusive" and NO REFUNDS! not even with receipt ! )
Whenever I think of Xray exams what comes to my mind is a nun slowly running over my big toe with a three hundred pound man on a wheelchair as I waited dozing at the out-patient clinic in at a Miami hospital to have an Xray taken of my chest.
It woke me up to just how cruel someone who claims to be a Christian can be as well although I was not bereft of previous examples.Bet that woke you up!!
Hard to imagine a world without clocks, that's for sure!Except that an x-ray machine without a pretty accurate clock is all but useless.
NOT AT ALL !Hard to imagine a world without clocks, that's for sure!
How would our civilization manage to function without clocks? True, I can go without a clock for a week. But if I am to be on time for appointments, how do I manage?NOT AT ALL !
It is so SUPER WONDERFUL !
Do not imagine it - DO IT. Live without clocks for a day or a week.
IT IS FANTASTIC !

I still don't understand how a society would function without being able to tell time via using clocks. Are you saying that humans don't need clocks when humans have God? Where does the Bible teach that?< shrugs ? > Well, for me, when God took the government of my life upon His Shoulders, and I was simply willing and subsequently obedient joyfully, He took care of everything. Somewhere in Psalms, or elsewhere, it is written that He Scheduled All The Days Of Our Lives Before Creating The World, so it is His Responsibility to handle the schedule daily (as Corrie ten Boom found out, and showed, for many years after the holocaust; and others likewise, who turned their lives over to Him for the sake of the Gospel) . It is simple then - praying to find out from Him how to live (as Jesus directly told all the disciples : "I know you don't know how (He told Peter, James, John and the others); come to Me to Learn, and I Will Show You How" basically and simply, like little children looking to their Father all the time, trusting in Him and relying on Him; instead of the worldly, carnal, fleshy ways - learn to serve Him in spirit and in truth) and He accomplishes for us what is impossible with men. (every day!)

So then as everything goes, the more we give up for the sake of Christ, the more He has used us for His Testimony as LIGHTS on earth in the midst of great darkness.Always, no matter how we have been treated, Trust God, and keep seeking truth, understanding , and wisdom --- God says keep seeking (seeking HIM), keep asking (asking HIM), and HE WILL grant it with DELIGHT to those who trust Him and rely on Him to accomplish salvation.
i.e. we might find the answer , so to speak, in an overgrown weedy field !
We will know it, as God Reveals it.
The same way those who came to trust Him in Athens , in the midst of an evil generation and many idolators ,
learned the truth from the disciples of Jesus, and knew it was true, and opposed to and different from those all around them , including their own families many times.
Many people (most?) have been mistreated by family, children, parents, neighbors, government, medical, and churches even.
They might never in their lives ever have seen the proper living of God's Body (Christ's Body) on earth,
which is always according to His Word (not opposed to His Word).
But having been hurt, even devastated, by hypocrites/ false teachings/ white-washed tombs/
which claimed to be Christ's Body,
they
have nothing to cling to, nothing they have ever known to hold to, to trust.
And when they happen to "hear" the truth, they may reject it for years,
before 'seeing' it, if and when God permits.
Good example,I still don't understand how a society would function without being able to tell time via using clocks. Are you saying that humans don't need clocks when humans have God? Where does the Bible teach that?

Below is a quote from another thread unrelated to this thread, but the motivations, beliefs, standards, things that people depend on (rightly or wrongly; morally or immorally; in a Godly way and life or in an ungodly way or life) because we have been raised 'depending' on them
take a long long time to divest ourselves from, if ever, whether needed or not.
i.e. in the OP "if forced to" ? ... Why "FORCED"? Why not willingly and joyously give them all up ? As able to.... as God delivers us in His Plan....
(sudden remembrance here: did not Jesus say we must give up everything to be His disciple ? Oh, like Corrie ten Boom, we might use anything God provides to use for a time(with or without a clock) ..... Closest other example in memory being the missionaries to the tribes in Ecuador - Jim and Elisabeth Elliot
Jim Elliot - Wikipedia Jim was murdered - I think this book is about that: "No Graven Image: A Novel [Elisabeth Elliot] on Amazon.com. ... haunting true-life murder mystery about one of the most monstrous crimes in American history."
And Elisabeth, Jim's wife, went to the SAME tribes that gruesomely murdered him and many converts saved results, through giving up everything for the GOSPEL'S SAKE and spending many years there in Ecuador.
Other missionaries likewise, gave up all the luxuries of life (basically everything),
in various times and countries (like Goforth of China; Wurmbrand of Romania; or a little longer ago Jonah for Nineveh!) .... (or better known Paul for ... well , you get the idea )
So then as everything goes, the more we give up for the sake of Christ, the more He has used us for His Testimony as LIGHTS on earth in the midst of great darkness.
Good example,
seeing how dependent most all society has been made on all these things,
escaping of which is sheer grace as God enables and permits ,
and an all new or all different way of life, sometimes necessary as God directs.
This all seems pertinent and important, but if it's just considered
too far off topic, feel free to delete this post, or I will upon request. Thx.
Shalom.
There are apocryphal writings concerning the pre-flood days which say that a certain rebel angel taught mankind the skills of warfare.1. The concept of acquisition (in the context of taking from others/historic invasions and profiting from it)
2. Any form of government including tribalism
3. Warfare
The lack of those three things existed in the early days. Before the fall of man, and in much more detail in the Book of Enoch. It was marked by a long period of peace and prosperity for everyone (everyone lived in abundance, nobody is poor)

Very informative and fascinating evaluation of the reasons why the book of Enoch was excluded Thanks!Yes, you'll read it in the Book of Enoch.
Genesis actually made exceedingly fleeting remarks from the Book of Enoch even if how huge the impact of the events recorded in the book throughout history and today.
It reflects the animosity of Jewish orthodoxy to such writing as Genesis is "Torah" but Book of Enoch is not. And the Book of Enoch contained some of Gospels of Christ. That would be a contradiction of Jewish Orthodoxy if they accepted scripture that promoted Christ.
