As I understand it, evolution was argued right and left long before Darwin came along; and Darwin himself heard his father and grandfather argue it.The Theory of Evolution was around long before Darwin. The scientific community of his day knew of the theory, Darwin was just the first one to publish it for peer review. It's known as Darwin's theory only because he is the one who published it.
