Peace in Christ.
Our Lord Jesus Christ gave Himself for our sins so that He deliver us from/out of this present evil age…by giving us an “age-lasting life” (aka “eternal life).... so that we may live to the coming age.
Gal 1:3-4 KJV
(3) Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
(4) Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world (AGE), according to the will of God and our Father:
Whosoever believes into Him should not perish (mortally die) but will have an age-lasting life….life to be had in this present evil age that He is delivering us out of by our mortal bodies continuing to live to the very end of this age when at the “last trump” our mortal bodies (that have continued to live throughout this age) will then put on immortality (at the “redemption” of our mortal bodies). We "perish" under His wrath that comes upon us.
Joh 3:15-17 KJV
(15) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal (age-lasting) life.
(16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting (age-lasting) life.
The promise of His coming into this world is an age-lasting life to be had in this mortal body by faith. The just shall live by faith….the faith in the truth of the gospel through Jesus Christ who gave Himself for our sins. Faith shall keep us mortally standing here in this earth for the duration of this current age.
(17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
This “age” that we are living in is where the wrath of God is being revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold down the truth in unrighteousness. This is a NOW thing.
Earthly-minded men cannot understand the truth of the gospel as it is being suppressed by their unrighteousness. His coming wrath = our coming mortal death. The wages of the sin is the death…the death of our mortal bodies under His wrath that is revealed from Heaven.
Rom 1:18 KJV
(18) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
The heavens and the earth WHICH ARE NOW (this present evil age) are stored with fire against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. We must strive to enter into His rest …out of the wrath of Him. We are to be delivered out of this present evil age.
This is not about the current heavens and earth being destroyed by fire. No, this is about His coming wrath that destroys us mortally (by fire) out of this earth. We are saved but only by fire…His coming wrath.
2Pe 3:7
(7) But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved/stored unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
For now in this present evil age, the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night for us.
The “day of the Lord” in the context of 2nd Peter 3 speaks of our personal mortal death under His coming wrath….the departing of us from this earth…being removed from it because of our sins. Why wish for the "day of the Lord" for what is it to YOU (personally)? See Amos 5: 18-20 .
There will be a "sting" of death when we go to the other side and realize that we have been serving the sin because we were duped into going to "church" by false prophets and serving their church handwritings of ordinances/dogmas.
Yet, He is patient with us. He is not willing that any should perish under His wrath to come but come to repentance….to change the mind.
“the heavens pass away with a great noise” should be translated: “the heavens APPROACH with a WHIR”. They approach with the sound of a WHIR (rhoizēdon = whir) as in a whirlwind that comes to take us away from this earth . Think here about how Elijah was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. 2nd Kings 2:11 .
The “elements shall melt with fervent heat” should be translated the “elements which BURN shall be dissolved”. The “elements” are the “founding principles” that are contained in the handwritings of church ordinances/dogmas. They “burn” us up with the using of them. Colossians 2:22 .
The founding church principles that BURN us up “dissolve” as they do not keep our mortal bodies alive in this earth. We shall no longer keep them as we are taken away from this earth in a “whirlwind”….and the earth and the works that are therein are burnt up (from our departing-from-this-earth perspective).
The heavens and this earth do not burn up…it is us that do under His wrath that is being revealed from Heaven upon us for our sins.
2Pe 3:
(10) But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall approach with a great noise (a WHIR = the whirlwind), and the elements (founding principles) shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
The “rudiments” = the “elements” are the founding church principles….the church scribes’ handwritings of commandments and doctrines of men. They are known as “statements of faith,” “church constitutions,” “church bylaws,” “creeds”, etc, etc.
They do nothing to save our body nor mortal flesh….and in fact we PERISH with the USING UP of them…burning us up with the using of them.
Why be subject to them as they do nothing to save our flesh but instead “burn” us up with the using up of them? They do nothing to save the mortal body….instead the keeping of them burn us up.
Col 2:20-23
(20) Wherefore if you be dead with Christ from the rudiments/elements/founding principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, are you subject to ordinances/dogmas,
(21) (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
(22) Which all are to perish with the using up of them) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
They do nothing in keeping the mortal body alive in this earth. They instead "burn" us up with the using of them.
(23) Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honor to the satisfying of the flesh.
The “works” of man’s commandments (contained in church handwritings of ordinances/dogmas) BURN US UP mortally. They do nothing to keep us alive…and the day of our mortal death reveals it as we removed from here by His revealed wrath upon us. The keeping of church "works" did not keep us mortally alive. But if we keep His righteousness (His works), the fire does not burn us up.
1Co 3:13-17 KJV
(13) Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
(14) If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
The church works burn us up with the using of them. We suffer loss….the loss of the mortal body. We are saved (our spirits) but so as by fire.
(15) If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
For our mortal bodies are the temple of God…and they are destroyed by His coming wrath if we defile it with the keeping and serving of man’s church commandments and doctrines contained in their handwritings. The church handwritings are “images”….idols. We must not worship images...the church scribes' handwritings of ordinances.
(16) Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
(17) If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
What we are looking for is to be delivered out of this present evil age where the heavens which are now on fire (stored with His coming wrath) shall be dissolved and the elements that burn us up are liquefied. The elements will become useless to burn us up any longer for we shall no longer serve them. We come out from under His wrath and enter into His rest.
2nd Peter 3:
(12) Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
What is being said in 2nd Peter 3 lines up with what Elisha saw when he was allowed to see the manner of which Elijah departed from this earth.
2Ki 2:10-11 KJV
(10) And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
(11) And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
Our Lord Jesus Christ gave Himself for our sins so that He deliver us from/out of this present evil age…by giving us an “age-lasting life” (aka “eternal life).... so that we may live to the coming age.
