Ideas for Cell Group??

Hi everyone,

Hopefully by the end of the year, me and a couple of friends are going to meet once a week in what is called a cell group. Each week you can pray, sing, study the bible, etc.

I was just wondering if anyone had some good ideas on how to make the time inspiring and enjoyable, etc. Put your thinking caps on  and post your ideas here. Thankssssss everyone!

Well over the past two years I've been going over to my buddy's place for a bible study/prayer meeting on thursday nights. I think God's really blessed us as we've grown from a constant 3 guys up to 15 people guys and girls! It's pretty cool, and we've all grown to be good friends and can share stuff with each other.

Every week we meet and just sit around and talk till we feel like starting the bible study. We just did James last week, but before that was Romans. Every week we'll do two chapters, or three dependant on length and how many people are there, and each read a few verses until we've covered the section for the night. Then we'll just speak on what stuck out to us particularly and let it flow from there onto other related topics. It's just SO GREAT to sit around with close friends and share personal views on certain subjects and debate different issues, or try and find the real meaning and how we can be better christians. I know I've grown a ton just from listening to others. To be honest, it was hard to do it this way as everyone was pretty shy about speaking out but I guess we've gotten used to it and now it's no problem.

After we've discussed (which can be anywhere from 10min. - 1hr.) we break off the guys and girls into smaller groups and pray. Recently we've logged responses in what we've coined the Prayer Journal. We just write down the requests as they come up and everyone will just give  alittle update on how they're doing and what they'd like prayer for. Even if its not for them, or if they dont have anything to pray for, everyone has their chance to speak their mind and get some stuff off their chests. We've all grown pretty close by sharing some real trials that are going on and through the Prayer Journal we can track answers to prayer and really see God moving in our lives. We pray over everthing we discussed and that's usually from a half hour to an hour and a half long. Then we just get together and someone will have invariably whipped out a guitar and we'll just chat it up as friends. We're all within 19-24yrs old and some have been friends for 7 years, others have only been around for a few months but it's good times just hanging out. Sometimes after prayer we'll sing some worship songs......... I cant think of anything that can bring a group of people together more than just praising God with a simple guitar and your vocal chords. In such close confines it presses you to not think about how you or anyone else sounds, but to just think on God and sing to him and no one else.... every now and then I'll sit back and watch my friends sitting around and worshipping God together and Im overwhelmed by how thankful I am for these people, even those I dont know that well... that we can all come together and have a common interest and just lose ourselves in His presence for a little while, together, without fearing being cool or anything like that. It's awesome.

So thats our little prayer meeting. A box of donuts always helps too:)

Pete, I can't wait till it starts up!!!!
I think what I'd like to see is something spontaneous, that doesn't feel structured in any way. I'd love to just sit and chat and stumble across a passage in the bible, or watch a movie, or pray, or talk about issues or our ministry experiences.
And please... no leader!!!! if anyone tries to lead it, I'll thump 'em! well maybe not, but I think its better for the group we have so far to share it around and to bring something to do if thats what God's told you to do. Otherwise to just sit in silence if we can't think of anything (although that DEFINATELY won't be a problem!!!!).
I want a group open to God's leading...

Hello, I have started a site called www.jesusbless.com and every week, which this reminds me to update. We have a group task for people to perform. This might help you focus or have another idea to choose from for your get-to-gethers. Here is the link for the group tasks. http://www.jesusbless.com/today/group.htm .

Have a great day. Jesus Bless.

I am part of a men's small group. We meet every tuesday night from 7 to 9pm. We start off with an opening prayer, then we read and discuss scripture together. We have been studying James, so last night we read James 4, and discussed the verses. Then we share about what happened in our week. We share struggles, praises, and whatnot. Then we share prayer requests and pray for each other. It works great. I love my time at the men's small group.

With this, it keep us on the narrow road. We are also accountable to each other on a small level. Most of the guys in the group meet with just one other person during the week for further accountability.

I hope you first night as a cell group was a blessing. I have been part of a group for a long time and am praying to be a part of one again soon, having just moved.

There is a Bible called the Serendipity Bible that may help your group. It is published by Serendipity House and they have a website, but I have could not post it. The bes thing about this Bible is it gets you started by does not lead you by the nose around, it is a tool, not trying to rule.

Blessings on you and your cell group.

I have a group I go to each Thursday which consists of a load of us who did an Alpha course.

Most of us where mates before, but having a common beleif in God has had a profound effect on us all. We are a close nit group now who try to look after and help each other.

We need ideas to get more people interested though in the cell groups and the Alpha course..

Ideas would be appreciated, so far one of the best we've done a great big orienteering day for christains and non-christians to bond which was great.
