  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What about us joining together to develop outlines or brief synopses of classic reformed works? For instance, we might decide to labor in Charnock's Existence and Attributes of God. Each of us who are willing to be engaged in a joint effort might pick a portion of that work, outline it and make comments on that portion which we found to be especially precious, with key points. Then we could post our findings as individual threads, and others could evaluate our work until we all (hopefully) came to a consensus as to what would be most valuable to keep for ourselves and our posterity.

I make this suggestion because if we do our work carefully, we might gather the key points and the basic essence of these works to serve as refreshers of what we have earlier read. Perhaps some are like me. I have read works before, and upon completion I have wished I had carefully outlined it as i went along so Iwould have a refresher to keep me in mind of the riches.

Well, I guess that wasn't such a good idea. It did occur to me that we might be uncomfortable in relying upon a cud chewed by others. Let this idea perish. Brainstorming without wise meditation is UNwise. May the leadership of CF strike it out of existence. Let us burn our own works deserving of the fire. Why should they clutter the ground?
