Idea for witnessing - no idea for how to make it happen

Hi. I was at a bookstore a few months ago and saw a girl browsing the new age section. I thought "You won't find the answers you're seeking there." This has stuck with me. There are so many books out there pointing people in the wrong direction. My idea is to write a few paragraphs telling people they're looking in the wrong place for the answers to life. The message would also impart the basics of salvation. I'd like to somehow distribute this letter amongst Christians across the nation - who could print copies and covertly slip them inside the covers of a few tomes in the new age and witchcraft sections of bookstores. Good idea? Terrible idea? Any ideas how to get it going?

I think its a great idea. Just keep praying over your endeavor and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.

These are from a Catholic pov, but it works well for Protestant too.
  1. Stuff bill payment envelopes with Catholic tracts.
  2. Volunteer to take charge of your parish's literature rack.
  3. Play a video or audio tape for door-to-door missionaries.
  4. Place tracts or booklets in the pews at your parish.
  5. Write and answer messages on an online service.
  6. Go door to door, hanging leaflets from doorknobs.
  7. Write to the editor when the press misrepresents the faith.
  8. Place Catholic literature on windshields.
  9. Give away photocopies of articles from periodicals.
  10. Send a friend (or a stranger) a book or a tape.
  11. Call radio talk shows.
  12. Leave Catholic tracts and flyers in conspicuous places.

I saw this suggested on another website last year, and someone posted that this actually isn't a good idea becase a lot of companies have their bills opened and sorted by machines and that stuffing extra paper in could possibly jam the machine.

I've absolutely no idea if it's true or not, or how to find out, but thought I'd pass it along, just in case. (Anyone have any info on this?)

isn't this soliciting? are there other methods? there has to be some other way. A more effective process, not everyone will be saved.

Is this witnessing a part of what you feel you must do?

Let's say, out of 100 homes, how many listen to you? Are these numbers documented to reveal what types of neighborhoods are more willing to listen to strangers talk to them about the bible?

People are too involved in themselves to stop and take time to listen to strangers, even if it is to talk about the bible.

Good idea? Terrible idea?

AWESOME idea! One question though, do you think we would get caught by security cameras? If security sees us slipping something into a book they might get the wrong idea with all this terrorist activity going on lately. Might I suggest that we target the smaller, privately owned stores instead of the biggies? :)

Should we really be using 'guerilla' tactics to witness to people? Wouldn't it be more effective to form relationships with non-Christians and then tell them about Christ in person, from the viewpoint of a friend who knows them? I know that things like tracts have their place, but I think that a lot of Christians hide behind guerilla tactics to avoid face to face conversations with people.

I wholly agree it's imperative we witness to people through interpersonal communications. Being a rather shy person, it's not easy for me to approach friends or neighbors, but God can work around my weaknesses and open doors for me if I pray for that to happen. I think we should take advantage of EVERY opportunity to tell people about Jesus, though, even covert ones. :)

That's a good question! Do as the Lord guides you. :)

My husband and I buy these little cards in the shape of a business card from Family Christian Stores. They are about $0.10 each and we leave them with a tip at a restuarant. And we always pay a great tip even if we are badly serviced. We tip not because of their work but because it is a grace gift, besides my Father gives me money to grace them out. We also pay the toll for the car behind us but tell the booth person to pass the card to them.I believe they are called pass-it-along cards. There are lots of kinds of cards. Some for salvation and some for encouragment and reminders.
Plus, we hand out a perfect little booklet on Salvation. It is called A Matter of Life & Death by R.B.Thieme Jr.They are free and we pile up on them. We hand them to anyone we just met briefly, like standing in a grocery line. It will give them something to read instead of a trash mag. We hand out the cards to the cashier and even our mailman. Next time when you order pizza..hand one to your pizza guy.
