Well we already have a place for general debate between denominations, which is the whole theology section. But yes, I am particularly thinking of denominational specific theology sub-forum because it deals with issues within a given denomination.

It allows for debate.

Alright, I will make thread, and ask the wife to sticky it. When you want to make a debate topic create one in the DS forum and link to it in that sticky thread.

I am in favor of this action I think it is needed. the demoninational forums should be for fellowship and learning ONLY! A place of debate between the denominational lines would be a good thing I think

Robert
Robert, I think I may have gone to the church you attend back in the day when I was a student at Southern. Has it been around for almost 20 years or so? Just checking. The school didn't want us attending there at the time because it was borderline 'celebration'. We went anyway.

This is proposing a new way to post debates so as to be less controversial.
Serious questions:

Don't we often learn best when there is some amount of controversy or conflict? I find it interesting that so many want to avoid it as if it's bad, yet we see examples of the apostles having in-your-face-conflict with each other and yet they were able to deal with their differences, even if it meant one of them going away.

Don't you have a series of books called the "Conflict of the Ages", and isn't one of those books called "The Great Controversy"?:) Why would you (not YOU specifically, maybe we is a better word) not expect some to exist when Christians come together to disucss the Truth (Jesus Christ) as HE relates to different denominations, as HE, the Living Word, is revealed in the written Word?

Every SDA church I was in over the years was full of conflict and controversy just with it's own members, not counting how they viewed people in other churches. I saw many, many church splits happen, and that was between people who were supposed to be 'like-minded' united by the Spirit in the love of Christ. To what end do we avoid conflict and controversy over SDA beliefs, teachings, and doctrines? It's like the big elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about...

Anyway. I hope it's OK that I ask questions without actually discussing the things I'm asking about.

God bless us all as his Spirit leads us into all truth.

Just to clarify, it is not against the rules for Adventists to debate in the main SDA forum. Only the subforums are restricted just to fellowship posts. This includes debating on controversial topics. What my husband has proposed is just an option, not a requirement, to make some of our discussions more open. For former Adventists and non-Adventists, it would be a requirement if they want to debate these issues, but anyone who currently considers himself or herself a Seventh-day Adventist (traditional or progressive or whatever label fits), even without using that specific faith icon, is allowed to debate in this congregational area, according to the rules, and even to disagree with traditional Adventist beliefs. What is not allowed is flaming, accusing others in public of not really being Adventists, etc. If a discussion or debate among those who profess to be Adventists is civil, even if people disagree, it is acceptable in our congregational forum.

This idea appears to be too complicated, so we are discarding it; there will be no sticky thread. The option is still open for those who are not Adventists to start threads in Denomation-specific Theology if they want to debate Adventist beliefs. Anyone who does so is welcome to start a thread in the main SDA forum to invite people to the discussion.

The proposal is not going to work. I think it is a bit too complicated. Also, those who wish to who are Adventists could just debate in the main forum anyway.
Too bad! Thanks for trying though. I appreciate it, even though it didn't work out.

Understand that while this proposal didn't work, anyone, including you, are free to post a thread in this area that links to denominatinal specific theology if you wish to debate an issue.

We just won't be having a single sticky to track them. But if you make a thread and notify folks they can head over that way.
