This doesn't look like a traditional icon. I would have expected a great deal more symbolism in the background. There is a lot of symbolism in the parable and none of it is depicted in the above icon.
Maybe it was cropped.

I don't get the impression it's supposed to be the good Samaritan. The inscription says Merciful Lord, and it looks like he's bringing a man who is dead (in sin) to the waters of baptism.
Really? Someone told me the inscription read Lord, The Good Samaritan.

Yes really. Fr Matthew (nutroll) is an iconographer and a priest. I believe you can trust his word on this :)
