In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Hello everyone, thank you for the honest reply about Ibogaine.
It's nice to hear about first hand experience.
My husband admitted to using CAT a week back and decided to use this at home with someone who used it before.
I suffer from Anxiety and maybe a bit of depression and I was on the road to happiness. I did my therapy for 6 months and my gp put me on 10mgs of Lexamil to treat my anxiety. All was going well till this happened now I feel like I'm back at square 1.
He has changed into the most amazing person and has formed a new found relationship with God.
I want my anxiety ocd depression and addiction to cigarettes gone forever.
I also want to try do a 'flood dose' at home.
What are your suggestions in this regard?

I'm not anti-Ibogaine, but saying that it isn't used recreationally is wrong. I'm not going to post links but you can find it talked about on the web. There are some types of people who don't care if it may have very unpleasant physical or mental aftereffects, just as, there are people who will drink way too much knowing that they're going to have a hangover the next day.

Just for the fun of it, there is a belief widespread in the psychonaut community that if too many people use psychoactive chemicals, mankind will awaken and see a new reality and live together in peace and harmony without need for money or competition and blah, blah, etc., and that evil men in governments know this and that's why psychoactive drugs are suppressed. It's one of the more fun conspiracy theories out there. ;)

Anyone else with personal experience with Ibogaine? I'm not a drug user at all. Just cigarettes but want to kick the habit.
Also my mental illness if you want to call it that sorted forever.

I've never had the privilege of experiencing Ibogaine, but I have some experience with other types of "drugs", and I believe they have their uses. From time to time, I like to brew up a batch of Ayahuasca and have an evening of just sorting my thoughts out. It helps me enormously. I think the government is against "curing" anything. There's no money to be made in a cure, but there is a whole lot of money to be made in prolonging a person's suffering and illness.

Ibogaine may have a role in treating addiction, but it does have significant toxicity, especially regarding the heart. There was an FDA approved clinical trial in the 90s, which was suspended when a study patient suffered a sudden death. In various animal and other studies, some of the metabolic products of ibogaine have been shown to affect heart rate, blood pressure, and predispose to ventricular arrhythmias. The article is long and technical, but has much more detailed information. It notes that there is a related compound, 18-methoxycoronaridine (18-MC) which has the psychoactive (and presumably) anti-addictive effects, but with less toxicity.

My husband has said it's one of the best things his ever done.
I didn't give him much of a choice really.
For me it's about my addiction and to get back to believing like a child.
I'm not sure if any of you has suffered from Anxiety? Omw it's scary.
I'll keep you posted. I also plan on doing a full medical first.

QUOTE ThatRobGuy, I stumbled across an article about this drug. It's for opiate addictions. It can cure addiction, remove all cravings, a supposedly work in 24 hours.

While reading the article, I'm wondering "wonder why this isn't more popular in the US", then find out, that US has it under lock and key and it's regulated under the strictest of prohibition schedules. Yet Canada and Mexico allow it... and according to wikipedia (which means I'm not sure of how factual it is), it's not even subject to any regulation in Canada.

My first thought was "This has got to be the big drug companies pushing their usual SOP of charging big buck for a treatment when a cheap cure is available like they do for everything else". But, then I thought, the only major existing competitor to Ibogaine is Methadone and that's provided by Merck, a company that has headquarters in both US and Canada. I read that many people travel to Canada just for this 24 hour treatment. So if Merck were behind this, they certainly wouldn't have strongarmed one government without strongarming the two governments that are within driving distance of the country. With a government that allows the corruption that Mexico does in terms of drugs, certainly they would have shut it down if Merck was willing to throw enough money at it...so I don't think it's Merck behind this.

I hate to say this, but that only leaves the US Government (the entity that's supposed to be providing the best opportunities for us) or the FDA (the entity that's supposed to look out for our health and well-being)

Any thoughts on this? QUOTE

I suggest that you consult a physician instead of some random forum members.

I'm from South Africa in Africa and here Ibogaine is legal and seen as a "herbal medicine" we have numerous wellness centres that
provide this service it's just expensive.
I am a South African doctor. Ibogaine is not illegal, but it is outside of both public and private medicine in South Africa and is not considered a valid treatment option by the regulating authority. It is an unregulated herbal remedy and is by no means safe.

It is an opiate so can activate the kappa, mu, delta, sigma and nociceptors. It can therefore have all the side effects of normal opiates including respiratory depression and addiction. This is why it helps withdrawal symptoms as the body is then not really withdrawing from opiates. Its opiate effects are however weaker, as if someone was chewing poppy juice instead of injecting heroine.

That being said, it is associated with long QT syndrome and arrythmia, so can cause sudden death in people with heart problems. Thing is, IV drug users are at high risk of endocarditis due to constant venous injections (often in not particularly sterile conditions), so Ibogaine should be used with extreme caution in this demographic. Their cardiac risk puts them at very high risk versus the normal population.
As mentioned before, it also has psychedelic properties which markedly increase its abuse potential.
Finally it has been associated with Ataxia and neuronal disturbances.

The regulating authorities of the world are right in disallowing this substance until proper purified forms are made of the active alkaloids and sufficient testing is carried out. The risks unfortunately outweigh the possible rewards at this time, but research is being carried out on this substance. Drugs derived from it may become mainstays of heroine treatment in future, but the current forms are simply too dangerous in the specific population it is targeted towards.

Remember Heroine was originally marketed as a non-addictive alternative to Opium and Morphine.

Thank you so much for this information.
Are you doing research from your side?
I would love to get involved in doing further research into this treatment not just for drug addiction bit also for anxiety and depression and any other mental illness. I'm no doctor or phycologist just a normal wife and mother that wants to help in a bigger wider sense. I'm not a drug user just addicted to my cigarettes but it's an addiction non the less. I want to use it to give me a better start at understanding myself better.
I would love to get in contact if this is something you interested in researching. Recently moved to George from Joburg

I recently moved from Roodepoort to Cape Town myself.
I am not doing such research myself, although I had applied for a research post in which they were investigating it. Both Stellenbosch and UCT have studies running. I am an Anaesthetist, so opiates are kind of my field, so I try to keep abreast of events.

I assume Wits would also be doing some studies along the lines your looking for, although I don't know if Ibogaine specific ones are being done. It never hurts to ask whether they might be able to use you in some capacity.

A little off topic maybe, but have you ever had the experience of what Christians might call being "convicted of sin"? I find it kind of fascinating how many times I've heard reports of that type of thing with ayahuasca. Not just like major sins, like you remember when you stole that stuff and you realize it was wrong, but the smaller everyday stuff that's actually more important, like people reliving memories of conversations with family members or a friend, and "Mother Ayahuasca" showed them that the other person wasn't 100% at fault for problems in relations with other people, they were shown that they were also in the wrong and they realized it was true. Anything like that?
