Some points:
Whatever order you choose, my own advice to to read for the sake of exposure, and not to much for "in-depth study". The more you read it and the more you are exposed to it, the more it will permeate you. That will happen gradually, and you won't notice it as it occurs, until you look back later on.
I've read the whole thing all the way through from Genesis to Revelation several times, but I have come to believe that that is not necessarily the best or most beneficial way. I believe that the New Testament is the best place to start, and that it is best to read through the Gospels several times first, and then move through the rest of the New Testament.
I believe that it is good to make daily use of the Psalms. Again, not academically, but as a way to let them permeate you over time.
