• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's the point of this horrible world. Everything has gone to hell. I tried to join Christianity, I tried my hardest to not be bisexual, I prayed like 10 times a day. My mom kicked me out of the house when I came out and told her about my sexuality and tried to convince her that she needed jesus. I fought and screamed for hours with her and she threw me out. I hate this world so much it makes no sense at all. Why do people have to be this way. I wish my father was alive he loved me so much but God had to take him away from me, I hate god. He doesn't do anything, he's useless. I have skipped agnosticism and went straight to atheism. Maybe my mom will take me back if I stop trying to force this garbage down her throat. I hate life, nothing works like it should. Whats the point of existence when it would hurt much less to be dead. I am staying at my friends house but I cant stay long, I guess Ill have to beg my mom to take me back. I am so confused and tired of life right now I just want to overdose and end the shame and shallowness that this life is. I have tried my best to be something that I am not, and It not only failed but it screwed my life also.

The meaning of life is to love and help other people. Your father may not be alive anymore, but what's important is that you learn to love yourself. This world makes perfect sense, like a puzzle all the pieces fit together, however if you are unaware which piece should be fitted where, then this part of your unconsious understanding can lead to anger and hate as it has. You see life is supposed to be hard, this because the earth is a place for souls to learn valuable life lessons. Imagine you would be laying down on the beach lazying around all day, it would be nice, but you would't learn anything from it. You go thru all the mess in life to progress in order to become a more powerfull soul. The harder the hardship the more you will learn. God isn't useless ,however God doesn't intervene normally with people's lives, this because people have free will of their own, or in other words, people have to work for their own happyness, and therefore you shouldn't expect God or anyone else to make you happy. The only thing that can make you happy in this universe, is loving and helping other people. Do so and you will live.

Like I told some people when I first joined I did plan on reading the bible. So far a lot of what I have read has disgusted me, and I am almost done with the old testament
Really? lol have to admit the Old Testiment was like reading the Odessey again. Have to take it all in context, back then it was group of tribes vs the rest of the world. Basicly he made them his most favorite children, kinda like the chosen ones. As long as they where faithful, he would protect them and give them their own land. As you have read, over time they sinned against God and most worse they made idols to worship. lol even as Moses on his way back from talking with God, they made an idol and trying to worship it.

Once I got to the New Testiment, like I hit a wall of serious wisdom. Took 3x long to read thru it. Lot of great principles are found in the gospels.

As you are reading now and later in the last prophets before Jesus' time. God warned his people of his coming judgement. The faithful fell silent while the corrupt used their leadership position for their own gains. The laws in which help make hebrew perfect became the focus rather than faith in God. We are all sinners and there are no perfect human beings. Laws where used as markers to say you need to talk with God and repent. Leaders instead stoned or jailed sinners.

Jesus comes along to fullfill prophesy, being a sacrificial lamb. He teaches the real way of God. He brings about great change that became the Good News for all the world.

I could sit here and type all night, but I think more important for you to read yourself. If you have any questions you know we can help you understand.

I am happy that you are atleast reading. Doing more than most christians now of days lol Hang in there sister.

Katie,

The Old Testiment is hard to really understand outside of understanding how it points to Christ and His teachings.

I suggest people start bible reading with Matthew (New Testiment) but maybe they also read the Psalms too. (I love the Psalms!)

oh i think i see, read the nice parts and sweep the horrible parts under the rug. Have you guys really read the Old Testament? I have never been a christian, I spent my childhood in Europe where religion is very private and the minority so I had very little knowledge of the subject. After reading about King David, Elijah, and others that killed for god, destroyed cities for god, and rapped women and children, I cant worship or believe in something like that. Maybe I am reading some of it out of context but I know what violence is and it is something I don't support.

Oh man I wish I could sit down with you and walk thru the old testiment. I have to thank you, I want to reread it now lol

OK let me change the len of your perception to better understand the old testiment. Ultimately you are right wanting to live within the law. Old testiment has a theme to it, beginning in Genesis. God made man in his image, a child for who would love him. God gave one single rule and man being human fell for temptation. Start of what seems like a losing war for God. Within every human being is the ability for Good and Evil, question is which one do you feed? Theme being to be faithful and obediant to God or follow the human desires.

As you read God place his gifts on the Hebrew and as long as they remained faithful and obediant he would bless them. Even after leading them out of Egypt, when moses went up Mountain to talk to God. Some of Hebrew made an idol under Aaron's watch. lol here comes Moses with the tablets and they hit the ground when he sees what happened.

I found that farther from God some of tribes got, more it corrupted or came back to haunt Israelites.

Ultimately God is a great father as well as judge and jury. He knows us all, and will carry out judgement if sinners are beyond saving. Such as Sodom and Gomor. At the same time, you will find passages where God is a patient or stop judgement if only they truly repent. Read Genesis 17 and 18, Abraham tries to leverage conditions of judgement for Sodom.

The prophets like Elijah, they spoke only what God told them. Considering the prophets where killed by God's own people, you get the understanding of why judgement befell Judah. What where they told to say? Repent or the boiling pot of water from the north will come down. More than one prophet mind you.

Anyways, old testiment are lot of hard lessons learned...sorta. New testiment is what christianity is about today, God's prophesty lays down whole new system. Instead of the chosen Jews, God opens the doors to all his children. That being, I am a gentile who reborn by Christ.

All good writing tells a story. The Bible is no exception. When we miss the general theme we also miss the relevance of the detail. Thus, we could object to the murder and betrayal in Hamlet if we ignore the genre of tragedy. Sort out what the core message is and details can then fit more understandably. That is why understanding Jesus is so fundamental.

And note, the NT contains the key to it sown irrelevance. Paul wrote that if Jesus did not rise from the dead our belief is futility. But if indeed He did then that is a pivotal point for listening to Him.

Pretty much what he said.

All I have to say is only been one perfect human being on this planet. Rest of us fall very short to that. OT makes that point very clear.

The OT is pretty much the story of the Holiness of God versus man's fallen state, and how God views and judges sin. The OT may seem barbaric at times, but the big picture seems to point out how far man has fallen, how God feels about sin, and why man needs a way to God. God, being Holy and perfect, has no choice to judge sin harshly, but because He loved mankind and did not want them to be separated, instead of leaving them hanging there in their fallen state he made a way.

In looking at the entire picture, the OT (the law and the prophets) paints a picture of how far man is from God, why He needs redemption and the promise of that redemption.

I think the old testament seems harsh because it shows how much God hates sin, but it is also hopeful because it points to Christ as a way for us to break through that barrier and get to God.

The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it. -- Luke 16:16

Last November my dad died of colon cancer. I didn't unserdstand why God would let this happen, but then I realized God is not the author of death. Satan and sin is the author of death But praise God, my dad found Jesus only months before he died.

I know this has got to be hard for you. It's been months and months and like still doesn't make sense to me. But God doesn't want you to be in pain like this. He wants to be the father you don't have. He LOVES you.
