Using this definition, freewill is incompatible with fate.

I think the problem is that we're thinking of fate as two different things. You think of fate as 'fated to make a certain choice', whereas I consider fate as 'an event that will happen regardless of choices.' I think. Correct me if I'm wrong there.

They are essentially the same thing. In either instance, freewill is not able to exist. The reason for that is because there is only one path to get any exact result. Think about it, there is an incomprehensible amount of variables acting on everything. If one were to change slightly the end result would be thrown off, especially if that result is many years in the future, sort of like the butterfly effect, but less dramatic. (Btw, run on sentences are awesome)
