• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I think I may be crossing the line of being a "social drinker". I often have a drink or two with friends, a bunch of us do community theater and will knock back a few. Yesterday we tore down set for a play we just finished, and after I got home I had a couple of Christmas ales. Later that evening I polished off 4 glasses of wine. Never got to the point of feeling drunk, but I'm thinking there's something wrong with polishing off a 750mL bottle of wine in one evening by myself. I'm sure I'm not doing my liver any favors, even if I'm not feeling spaced out or puking.

Sounds like you have a high tolerance. I used to drink 12 packs by myself. Then I would get "ice" beer because of the higher alcohol content. Then I moved up to a 15 pack and that's when I pretty much quit. I still binge drink from time to time.

It really doesn't sound like you have a problem. It sounds like you're mostly a social drinker although I would be a little concerned about the drinking by yourself. Do you do it often?

Hello,

I think you are correct in your assessment of your alcohol use. Are you thinking about quitting or just trying to cut back?

What do you think about making a committment to go to some AA meetings? I did this and ended up quitting drinking and applying the AA prinicples to my life. It's been a number of years now and I can really see where I did the right thing.

I think your considering whether or not you have a problem is a good thing and I'll be praying for you.

Faithfully,
