• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Patches deliver a dermal dose of nicotine into the system. That's why it calms cravings. Because rather than smoking to get the nic-fix, you are now absorbing it trans dermally. Be careful. That patch area can develop issues too.

Are you/were you are smoker, too?

I managed to quit.

I use e-cigs and I have managed to cut back my smoking a great deal. I have other health issues that complicate quitting smoking. I quit smoking before using nicotine patches, and then quit altogether . But the past year I started smoking again because my life has been so rough and it actually helped my digestion (I have horrible IBS and food intolerances), so I switched to e-cigs.

Nicotine doesn't cause cancer, there have been several long-term studies in NRT users that have shown this. It is addictive but actually e-cigs are less addicting than regular cigarettes, because they do not deliver a big nicotine hit, it's much slower.

Propylene glycol is mostly harmless stuff. Sometimes it can dry out your throat a little bit but you get used to it in a week or so and it goes away.
To the bolded...when I see people using e-cigs, I notice that they hit it a lot more than they do if it's a cigarette. You might get 10 drags out of a cigarette, but when people smoke e-cigs, they hit it several times in succession before exhaling.
