  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Nope, Order of the Phoenix is pre-production (since all the actors are busy filming GofF right now) but scheduled for release in 2007.

I'm guessing there's a system...Goblet of Fire movie in 2005, Book 6 in 2006 (but I HOPE it's sooner!!!), Order of the Phoenix movie in 2007, Book 7 in 2008 (*sigh* that's such a long time!), movie 6 in 2009, movie 7 in 2010. A nice little 10 year plan.

I stand corrected. :) What a nice steady job those young actors have huh?

I didn't enjoy it. It really made me appreciate the first two more than I have been.

I understand plot changes have to happen, but there were ridiculous and unnecessary changes to the plot in terms of little things. Why was Harry constantly chatting to Lupin in the grounds or on some bridge corridor that doesn't even exist? Why did they change the Hogwarts grounds? There is no hill down to Hagrids hut. The whomping willow doesn't look like that. It wouldn't have been hard to keep these things accurate.

This movie didn't have a feel to it. I'm quite disappointed. It was my fav. book and they ruined it. :(

I totally understand...as I already posted, I was disappointed too. I understand the new director to have his own creative input, so I did expect differences in some things. But the Hogwarts grounds were really kind of ugly this time around. Then there were all the things that were different from the book...little subtle things that really didn't need to be changed at all. For instance, I felt absolutely no emotion to the fact that Buckbeak was going to get killed. Hagrid appeared upset in one scene where he told the kids Buckbeak was sentenced to death, but in the scene where the executioner and Dumbledore come down to the hut, Hagrid isn't even broken up about it like he was in the book. And there were other random changes (or addictions) as well. I'd be curious why they made these kind of subtle changes...because from my point of view, they didn't seem to improve the movie in anyway, and were completely unnecessary.

You probably all think I hated the movie...but honestly, just a case of high expectations. I'm sure when I go back and watch it a second time I'll warm up to it a little more. Even now...I'd still give it 6 out of 10.

I agree with you too. I am an avid reader of the books, and I had read this one like 5 times. It was a kind of insult to the books the amount of changes and additions put in, when so many of them were easily avoidable. The Hogwarts grounds would definitely never look like that, but what would they look like? What are you basing it off of, the other two movies or your imagination? I think it's agreed there was never a hill down to Hagrid's hut, I know that was not in the book. But still....it wasn't that bad.

I've seen it...what...three times now? Complete HP junkie. I do wish they hadn't left out so much (Sirius sending Harry the Firebolt, Harry's birthday, more with Lupin and Sirius) but oh well. I was impressed with Alfonso, I wouldn't want to be directing the third installment of anything. And the scenes with Harry and Buckbeak where wonderful. I do wish there had been more info on Sirius, such as the Dursley's seeing him on the news to start, but what can you do? Loved it.

I've seen it 3 times too. And just ordered the book on CD since it's been awhile since I read it, and so many things were left out.

I liked this one the best so far, I liked the feel and look of the grounds, (and I thought the whomping willow was the same as always? Except for whomping birds maybe). The seasons seemed a little off, with the big pumpkin pile at the end, but my daughter, who has the books practically memorized, informed me that Hagrid grows pumpkins year round.

Well basing off the other two movies, imagination, and description. I actually thought there was a small hill to Hagrid's hut...just not as big as they made it in the movie. It wasn't just that the looks didn't meet expectations...I just thought they were uglier than the other two movies. Kinda depressing...but I guess that was also kind of what the new director was going for, a more darker feel.

I liked the first one. The second one was okay. But I loved the third one... :sorry: I've never read the books, they weren't a big interest for me. I watched all three movies with my little brothers and cousins, mostly because no one else wanted to take them. But I found this third movie very interesting. It was good. :)

I really liked the 3rd movie (even though if drifted dramatically from the book, which was disappointing), but I didn't like the way they portrayed Malfoy. They made him such a coward in this movie. The floppy, surfer hair didn't help his bad boy image either.
