I remember when the first two numbers of telephone numbers were represented by words, for some reason.

Telephone exchange names ... wow, does that take me back!!! lol

Wow ... I do remember that!
I think our number ended in 1212.
(Apparently, the number varied according to where one lived.)

Like the fella in this humorous video, I remember waking up in the middle of the night and finding these kinds of inspiring commercials on the television ... (though my reaction to them wasn't quite like his! lol)

Ours is still in operation, sponsored by a local bank. The weird thing is, and I could be wrong, but the pleasant sounding lady who gives the time and temperature - her voice sounds exactly the same as it did in the 1970's.

You brought back a memory I'd forgotten about. Remember when TV stations didn't broadcast 24 hours a day? At some point late at night, they'd play the national anthem and "sign off". Nothing but static/white noise till the next morning.

Listening to the top songs of the year during the New Years Countdown on the radio

AND

record for free, every single top song on your cassette tapes?!

I wrote them all down in order and had all the hits I wanted

I remember back in the mid-late 70s there were numbers you'd call to leave a message. I remember one was called "Why Not?". It was a precursor to internet forums. Those who operated it (high school and college students) would then play back the messages and comment on them. This was within the 213 Los Angeles area code.

Some of those involved went on to become internet pioneers and the first hackers. I'm guessing that's probably what inspired the use of telephones in The Matrix. I remember the infamous hacker Kevin Mitnick from those days. Back then Ma Bell was a whole nother world.

We also figured out that replacing the last digit with any number that is even or odd, according to our listed number, a different ring pattern occurred.
What I mean is, if the last digit of your number in the phone book (remember those?) was even, any even digit rang the same home, but a different ring, such as 2 shorts and a long, and if it was odd, any odd digit did likewise.
As a kid, we each had our own ring pattern and knew before answering who the call was intended for.

Boy, does this ever bring back memories for me.
My mom had the Old Pea Picker cranked up on the record player. She had several albums, if memory serves.
At 75, I'm not ashamed to say that,yes I made myself a pea picker carrier.
My folks put in about half an acre of garden and many rows were peas. She canned more food than anyone else I've ever seen.
Tennessee Erny Ford showed us all how to make a pea carry case consisting of a half gallon paper milk carton with the folded top cut off and a piece of grocery string run from a hole near the top on one side to the same on the other. Perfect way to carry your picked peas.
He was such a warm person on TV and this tribute to him warmed me inside. That I never thought he'd be struggling with alcohol.
I think at one time he had his own variety show. I recall watching it often.

Those who enjoyed his music and comedy will remember that he referred to members of the opposite sex as "heffers".
Did you catch George Jones in the audience? In my opinion, among the top 5 greatest singers.
I once worked with a DJ at a local country radio station and one day at work I requested his incredible recording of "He stopped loving her tiday" but instead he pulled out one I'd never heard. "Just a Few of My Favorite Lies"
What an incredible voice!
