  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I really got a kick out of this one.

Why don't you believe that men and apes have a common ancestor?

  • The Bible as redemptive history.

  • It is counter to the scientific laws of inheritance.

  • The philosophy of Darwinism is atheistic/agnostic.

  • I have other reasons (elaborate at will)

I would have preferred if the question had been worded differently, like which reason is the foremost. I would choose all of the above. And I have real philosopical differences with every chimpanzee and other apes that I have discussed this with. It is hard for me to accept that we could be related. At least pigs have the same number of chromosones.

To be honest I didn't give it that much thought, it was later that it started to amuse me. It's just that I am convinced that at the heart of the issue is an a priori assumption of a single common ancestor. More and more I have come to realize that this comes before everything else and will never stand or fall on the actual evidence.

I was just confused that no one choose biology, that's supposed to be the holy grail for evolution. Paleontology might have been an interesting choice but no one liked that one as a stand alone discipline. Multiple disciplines would have been fine if in the discussion there was something said about them working in concert. More then anything else I found the poll amusing with no real bearing on the actual discussion.

Grace and peace,
Mark

Check out the poll at the top of this thread.

Piltdown and the search for human ancestors

Notice that over 50 people choose the 'Multiple disciples the proved it conclusivly' option. It was a typo, I really meant to type disciplines and they all probably misread it. It just tickled me that only two people choose genetics/biology and no one choose fossils. But 52 people choose multiple disciples, maybe I am just easily amused, I think that is hilarious. ^_^

I remember a couple of years ago I was debating Aron-Ra and brought up Mendel and Darwin. He ranted and raved that they had nothing to do with it and even started calling me a hypocrite when I started discussing Mendel. In two of his subsequent debates he strongly emphasised the modern synthesis of Mendel and Darwin and I just got such a kick out of that.

These guys just kill me, I would love to move on to some other topic but I am just having too much fun with this one.

Logic would dictate to me that such a simple missunderstanding were funny.

However, it laugh and the world laughs with you (thank you Hydra) sneeze and it's goodbye seattle?

When one thinks one can discern logic but they are truly dear dumfounded and just plain can't read between the lines, people get tired of talking about Him.

What would happen to CF, to Him, to JC, to the HS, to us if that happened?

How much do you love Him?

I am tired of games, isn't every one else?

So tell me, to those who don't go to Crevo forum, what not? Are you afraid to discuss EVILution or sumthin' silly like that?

Did The Word get lost in your logical best efforts?

Science is Logic.

God is the Word.

Go spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, the one I AM who remained the same from begining to end, whom none of us can ever live upto. It's just a simple challenge. Take it as you will, but go With God.

My book is not finished being written yet, btw. It does nto have a revelation.

I'm just an over protective mother hen type anyway. I'm so so so so sorry if my hot watter approach/and/or my cold water offened anybody. Trust me I am not LUKEWARM!!!!!!! But I AM is a greay area we are not meant to comprehend, is HE Not?

Ok, I'm sorry I brought it up. I just kind of got a kick out of it because genetics and biology didn't get a vote. The one thing I like about these discussions I have been having is I learned a lot about the life sciences. My favorite definition of an evangelical is someone who's thinking begins and ends with the Scriptures. I just thought it was ironic that such a vital part of evolutionary thought didn't get a vote, that's all.

However, it laugh and the world laughs with you (thank you Hydra) sneeze and it's goodbye seattle?

Maybe this stuff is taken way to seriously to begin with. For me it's just an intellectual exercise that opens up some important ways of looking at things. Genesis makes some sweeping claims that, believe it or not, indicate a radical version of TOE. I really get a kick out of the fact that evolutionists haven't realized that but apparently I'm the only one who sees any humor in it. :sigh:

When one thinks one can discern logic but they are truly dear dumfounded and just plain can't read between the lines, people get tired of talking about Him.

They made it clear why they voted the way they did and the poll was irrelevant to the discussion anyway. I am continually getting accused of incredulity (neat word btw) and I just shrug it off. I'm not incredulous, not in the least. I am genuinely interested in genetic mechansims for adaptive evolution.

I never run out of people who want to debate me, until a real question comes up. I am aware of the talk, I am aware of a lot of things that are going on here. This was originally meant to be a place where creationists could just shot the breeze. They found out that their posts were being monitored and a lot of them moved on. I really get tired of that.

What would happen to CF, to Him, to JC, to the HS, to us if that happened?

Creationism is not that important to me, redemptive history is. Particularly the one that reaches wretches like me and starts writting God's Word on their souls. What I do on C&E is just evidential apologetics, I am very much in favor of beating my evangelical sword into a plowshear. I just don't think it's right to have sacred Scripture reduced to myth in the minds of curious onlookers and never answer them on the evidence.

So tell me, to those who don't go to Crevo forum, what not? Are you afraid to discuss EVILution or sumthin' silly like that?

Most creationists are not interested in the highly contentious nature of the creation/evolution controversy. Christians are being indoctrinated into this worldly philosophy and I've seen them abandon those boards for that reason.

This is a place where creationists should be allowed to avoid the trappings of debate and melodrama. I wouldn't recommend C&E to anyone just wanting to have a casual discussion on the issues. It just doesn't happen.

Grace and peace,
Mark
