a program that I can use to make address labels. But I also need to be able to sort the fields and add and delete and sort as needed. The address book program that Microsoft Works has just doesn't cut it. Any suggestions???

MS Office should be what you need, I think MS Access might be what u'r looking for, but if not I think Word and Excel both do that.....Also, a cheeper alternative would be WordPerfect Office, but you need the one with Paradox....I've used Paradox a couple of times to do stuff like that....

(I dont' have a site right now for the WordPerfect Office, but I've gotten it for liek $24 for the whole OEM package)....I'll look for it and see if I can find it.....

Don't buy Microsoft Office for this! Office costs, what, $400? A computer from 1982 can do this.

Instead download the free, open-source software provided by OpenOffice. www.openoffice.org

Ok...I downloaded this program but it doesn't do what I need.
This is how it is... I volunteer for a company that sends out like 800 letters. I print off 29 pages of labels(avery 8160) . each label with a different address. I need to be able to sort the labels by zip code.

You may be correct, but I would be stunned. Have you read the documentation? Or searched for an answer at www.google.com and www.google.com/groups ?

I don't see why you want to sort the labels. Wouldn't you instead want to sort the data before you generate the labels?

i would sort the data first only there always seems to be a mistake and one needs to be dropped and another added. The post office requires the mailing to be sorted by zip. but sorting 800-900 addresses after printing takes to long.

But does the same error happen with OpenOffice, or are you assuming the same error will happen? I think the standard way to do this would be to sort before generating.

I just can not figure out how to do this, in Office. Does anyone known how?

MS Office is difficult to print labels and envelopes...that's why I use WordPerfect Office and print directly on the envelopes.......my question for you is this....What part of Microsoft Works are you using to do these labels? I used to use MS works database to set up names and addresses and then click to sort by the name, so I see no reason why you couldn't use it to sort by zip.......can you tell me what error you get in MS Works in detail and what version you are using and I'll see if I can figure it out (I have WP Office, MS Office, and MS Works here)....

Well.........I don't know what version and I don't get an "error" per se. I simply type the labels and then print. I tried generating labels from the addressbook and it wouldn't do it the way I wanted so I just typed the address out in a label format. Anyways, It doesn't really matter now because I think I found what I need. I think quickbooks is what I am looking for.
