• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I will be praying for you, I want to quit and I am goining to the Dr.s next week to get some help. I would like to try chantix but I not sure my insuarance will cover it.
Ruth, have you talked to your doctor about this. I know you prayed to Jesus, the Great Physician, but sometimes the Lord will use a doctor to help in these types of situations.
Pray for Wisdom on the matter and let the Lord lead you on what is the best way for you to quit.
I quit 2 times before, 1 after I smoked for 4 years, than after 8 years of not smoking, I smoked for about 7 months. Each time I quit I had to do something different. 1st time I quit cold turkey, 2nd time I used caffeine as a substitute for the nicotine. I didn't smoke for almost 7 years than picked it up again. I didn't have cravings for smoking, but I thought that if I quit before I can just do it again easily. WRONG!! I am having the hardest time quitting.
Don't give up on quitting. You are not alone. You have Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, plus there are many here on this board going through the same trials and temptations concerning smoking. We are here for you.

Hi, I quit smoking 22 yrs. ago. and haven't had an urge to start. What I did was everytime I wanted a cigarette, I drank a big glass of real cold water. I read that in a Drs. office. It worked well for me. Maybe it will for you. Give it a try. Make sure it's a big glass and cold.
