• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I need prayers to quit again.

The power of suggestion is a great tool to rid your life of smoking for good.

BE sure that you are well rested and pick a day for your quitting that you feel energized and willing to stick to your guns. Do not just start for the sake of starting to quit!
You can make psychology work to your advantage and in your favor, which might actually get your results that can actually last and succeed. No anger, resentment, feelings of failure and the like will plague you any longer. You will be learning and claiming that smoking is bad for you and that quitting is a great pleasure and reward in and of itself to take you on that road of success of ridding your life, routine and health of smoking!
The THREE techniques individually and collective that we propose involve elements of relaxing and relaxation techniques, projection type visualization or envisioning and even some professional or self-hypnosis.
Some might have success right away in a couple of days, for others it might take a little longer. This is the positive step that you are taking of really having that last cigarette – determined to quit once and for all and making it work, stick and last! YOU WILL KNOW IT and CLAIM it. YOU WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Marvin.

Hi Ruth,
I used to smoke and tried i don't know how many times.

What worked for me was; I read in a drs. office in a pamphlet that when you desire a smoke, drink a tall glass of
COLD water. I tried it,and after three weeks i didn't need them ever again.
Chuck.

I also want to kick the habit, and can realte to smoking to the point of feeling ill.
I have thought about the patch, did it work for you the first time you quit??

I remember the first time I quit it seemed after two weeks I was over the withdrawl, but this time I went 2 weeks in the hospital (for depression) without a smoke but still had the desire when I got home.
this last week I started new meds for depression, and I'm actually smoking more, I'm hoping when the meds start working that it will help with the cravings.
my Mom took wellbutrin to quit, but I can't tolerate wellbutrin.

Praying for you

Will

Hello Ruth and Darrell,
I will be praying for you to kick the habit, this is an awful habit to break, I am also quitting as of last night, it is very hard. I printed out some scriptures and hung them on the wall through the house so I could read them quickly when the craving comes around. 1 Peter 4:1 Whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. 1 Peter 4: 12-13 Beloved do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering as though something strange were happening to you, but REJOICE that you participate in the sufferings of Christ so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. 1 Peter 5: 6-11 Humble youselves therefore under God's mighty hand that he may lift you up in due time, cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you, be self controlled and alert, your enemy, the Devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ , After you have suffered a while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power forever and ever. AMEN !!:amen: :groupray:

I will be praying for you, I want to quit and I am goining to the Dr.s next week to get some help. I would like to try chantix but I not sure my insuarance will cover it.
Ruth, have you talked to your doctor about this. I know you prayed to Jesus, the Great Physician, but sometimes the Lord will use a doctor to help in these types of situations.
Pray for Wisdom on the matter and let the Lord lead you on what is the best way for you to quit.
I quit 2 times before, 1 after I smoked for 4 years, than after 8 years of not smoking, I smoked for about 7 months. Each time I quit I had to do something different. 1st time I quit cold turkey, 2nd time I used caffeine as a substitute for the nicotine. I didn't smoke for almost 7 years than picked it up again. I didn't have cravings for smoking, but I thought that if I quit before I can just do it again easily. WRONG!! I am having the hardest time quitting.
Don't give up on quitting. You are not alone. You have Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, plus there are many here on this board going through the same trials and temptations concerning smoking. We are here for you.
