Hey all,
My name is jeff, I am kind of a new member, 17 years old, and I am going to missions in Trinidad(i live in New Jersey) soon. I need to make a testimony for my missions training by tonight and I need something to grab the attention of the audience in the beginning and the end. Preferably something that is similar in the beginning and the end. For instance, my missions leader told us his intro is that God was knocking on his door. (and he knocks on something) Then at the end, he says God is knocking on your door or something like that. Just something interesting.
My testimony is below, but before You read it, there are something you should know. This testimony is spoken so grammar might be bad=P and also some ideas I was thinking about (but i am not very creative)
-When I originally wrote a very similar testimony for the congregation when i was getting baptised, i started with an intro paragraph something like, "I am unique, I am special, but I live an ordinary teenage life; I like to play sports, I like to play games, and I love good food. So exactly why am i unique? Because I know that God has made me in a special, one of a kind way and because I have Him in my heart." Then I was thinking I might end it, "You are unique, You are special...God has made you that way, do YOU know it?"
This was my original plan, but then i got second thoughts because it's in Trinidad and I don't want them looking at me(probably relatively well off compared to them) and think that I'm hypocritical for saying that i live a normal life..or something. I'm just not sure
-My second idea was to start with a verse and end with a good phrase from that verse. But i have no idea what verse.
So PLEASE send me back with nice ideas. Thanks so much. God bless
Here is my testimony..
Ive been raised in a Christian family. I first accepted God when I was four or five, when I still didnt fully understand what it meant for Jesus to be my savior. I memorized tons of Bible verses and knew even more Bible stories, but I didnt apply it to my daily life. It was not until I was eleven when I truly had Jesus in my heart. It was in this year that I saw some Christians when we were worshipping together singing with so much feeling and passion. I saw them singing with joy yet weeping for sorrow. It was at that moment that I realized that I had a problem. I, too, sang praises to God. However, there was a missing part to it. I didnt know the praises we sang had meaning to them. I finally started to see just how much meaning was in the songs we sang. That same year, I devoted my life to Jesus Christ in a Christian camp. What motivated me to do this was because I saw something in my counselors. When it was time to have fun, they went crazy, yelling and prancing in the air. Yet, when it was time to read the Bible, they surrendered themselves completely. They even took off their caps to show respect to God. I saw God working in their lives. They were just like normal people, but they had the fruit of the Spirit showing in their lives.
After receiving Christ, my eyes suddenly opened up. I learned how blind I was. I started to be more optimistic and I started to see life in a different way. People around me noticed a change in me too. Having Jesus in my life was a totally different feeling. Instead of being lonely and afraid, there was an unexplainable peace within me. This peace is like a nice warm house on a cold snowy day. There arent enough feelings to describe it. It is somewhere I can go whenever I have problems. It is somewhere I am always accepted and understood. Where I am loved and cared for.
After I received God in my life, my relationship with him has only gotten stronger. No doubt, I am still a human and I still have a ton of problems, but I know that whenever I do have these problems I know that I have a friend that is right there, watching me and guiding me.
To me, having God is like having a best friend; a best friend that is always available and never busy. He is also my Lord and savior. He protects me from different kinds of dangers and helps me whenever I confront tough situations. He loves me and cares for me. He encourages me and knows my strengths and weaknesses. He knows me from head to toe. Every single scar I ever got, and all the sins I ever made. Furthermore, God is my creator that planned out my life and gave me such great family and friends. He understands my problems and understands what I am going through.
