Did John the Baptizer know Jesus beforehand?

John 1:

29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Apostle John assumed that the reader knew about Jesus' baptism and temptation in the wilderness probably a few months back.

30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.”

but he who sent me to baptize with water
When God first sent John to baptize, he had not know about a certain something.

What thing?

said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
John and Jesus likely knew each other at childhood. As adults, they hadn't known each other that well. One day, God sent John to baptize people with water. Before they met at the baptism, John had not known that Jesus was the Lamb of God and Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit (Paraclete).

Sorry for my so often off-hand remarks, but in the final analysis, he knew Christ, even when in his mother's womb. This inspires a long study of the use of 'to know' in Scripture.
