Thank you to all the new Orthodox members. This forum is really starting to take off. I encourage you to recruit new Orthodox members. I also hope to see more Orthodox members apply to become moderators in the future. *hint*hint* I'm Catholic and I'm moderating this forum. Eventually, I would like to have enough Orthodox mods so I can step down from this forum. for an Orthodox/Catholic reconciliation. God bless you all.

Thanks, Jukes.

May I assume from your quote from "St. Hawgustine" that you are from Arkansas?

The reason I ask is that my Mom is from Paragould (born in Cardwell, MO, however), and I used to live there and in Jonesboro.

Therefore, I will say "amen" to your enthusiasm for the Razorbacks!

(I was born in Memphis.)

Ah, your assumption is correct. And to add to your assumption, I am a proud graduate of the University of Arkansas.

My mom's family is from the Ozarks about an hour north of Pocahontas, AR in a little 'ol town named Fredericktown, MO. I've been to the Boot Heel a few times when I was little so I've probably been in or around Cardwell.

I spent a few days weathered in at the Fredericktown airport on the way back to Middle Ga from St. Louis.

Dea'est Brotha's in Christ:

I'm a Geo'gia peach myself. It was inte'esting trav'ling 'cross country by caw. The folks in Oklahoma and Awkansas didn't use streets to give you directions. One gas station said to go past five "cricks" then make a raight tu'n at the next inte'section. Afte' anotha two "cricks" we was to make a left at the next inte'section. The trouble was daw was so many "cricks" a running across the road that we got royally lost.

Crick = creek (Southern definition)

Southerners don't pronounce their middle r's.

My Dearest Brother in Christ, Oblio:

Christ is in our midst!

Have you ever been to the Maronite Church in Atlanta, Georgia? It was my first introduction to the Eastern Rite and ultimately led me to the Orthodox Church. At that church, back in the 1970's the ancient Maronite Priest was from Lebanon. He was married with his wife present. At that time they still celebrated the Divine Liturgy in Aramaic. I think the local bishop has since forced them to use the novus ordo. This ancient liturgy was a real treat because it was in Aramaic, the language which Christ originally celebrated it. It was awesome.

Your sister in Christ,
Elizabeth

Hey, Maximus, I was born in Memphis, too. Still have family there, as a matter of fact. I was raised in Gatlinburg (yes people actually live there), graduated from college in Nashville, and I recently made my move to Florida. It's good to know that we've got so many southerners here. :) Lord knows it needs the Tradition!

God bless ya'll,

Neal

Tradition??

Neal, have you heard the joke about how many Orthodoxers it takes to change a lightbulb?

Their answer will be: Change? What is this "change" you speak of?

Now that's Tradition with a big "T".

You'll be disappointed, Elizabeth...

I changed my avatar... The garden shown in it now, though, is very dear to me. I spent many nights there alone with God. I hope you understand. ;)

Yes, it's not going to fit in with the other posts you've made, but then you are quite a chameleon.

Our Lady is pretty. Where is this picture taken? Your garden?

I also grew up around the bootheel of Missouri. I was born in Cape Girardeau and raised in Portageville. What a small world.

Cool! I used to stomp around in those parts when I lived in NE Arkansas. My Mom, as I said, was born in Cardwell. A lot of my relatives are buried in Cardwell Cemetery.

I like Cape Girardeau, proud birthplace of Rush Limbaugh! (Now I await the boom to be lowered on me.)

No, the only Church I have been to in Atlanta is St. John Maximovich (OCA). To bad they changed the Liturgy at the Marionite Church. That would be something to see.

A chameleon... Wow... I don't know whether to take that as a compliment, i.e., "all things to all people," or not. ;)

The small grotto that staute sat in was about a three minute walk from my house, at the Parish I converted in. It is like home to me. I would spend hours alone in that garden, sometimes at three in the morning, sometimes mid-afternoon, praying and silently allowing God to make me a prayer to Himself. I need to remember that...

I just cannot believe what I am reading!!!

I have family in Kennett and Cape Girardeau. :) It is a very small world, indeed.

My dearest joy in Christ, Neal:

Christ is Risen!

In the literature courses I took in college, we discussed the concept of shape-shifters. This is a masonic idea, it appears. Nathanial Hawthorne's Young Goodman Brown has a classic shape-shifter figure who appears as a "fellow traveler", his father-figure, and possibly even his young wife. So I didn't want to call you a shape-shifter, but it does disturb me due to my exposure to this literary concept.

I also read a short story in Spanish, El hombre que parecía un caballo, written by Rafael Arévalo Martínez. This was spooky and I definitely don't recommend it. It has a very scary shape-shifter figure who is the antagonist of the story. This author, it appears, was into the occult. Do you now see why I don't like shape-shifters?

Hope you understand! Nothing personal!

Lovingly in Christ-God,

Elizabeth

Someone told me that the Maronites still say the Divine Liturgy in Aramaic but I think the custom is dying out as the old priests fall asleep in the Lord. Let's hope they keep the ancient Divine Liturgy alive.

There are some Syrian Orthodox (who don't use the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom) who also say that their Liturgy is in Aramaic. However, I don't think we are in full communion with them yet.

Have you heard the joke about the Aramaic-speaking Christians?

There was this man who decided to move into this remote old village located high in the mountains of Lebanon or Syria. Upon moving into his newly purchased house, he decided to celebrate by breaking out his barbie. While the smoke from his grilled steaks was wafting through the village, the villagers quickly ran to their local village priest exclaiming,

"Father, this is Clean Monday. Can't you go tell this newcomer that we are trying to fast and that this is a terrible way to start Great Lent? Please ask him to be careful of our Traditions."

The Priest calmed down his parishioners and told them that he would talk with the newcomer.

When the Priest explained the Faith and its disciplines, the newcomer was in awe. He asked to be given instructions and on the following Christmas, he was received into the Church.

The villagers were estatic. They came to him happily and said,
"You were born a pagan, and now you are a Christian." Welcome!

Everything returned to normal. Then the following year, Clean Monday came around again, and again the newcomer took out his barbie.

When they smelled the smoke, the neighbors peered over his fence and heard him exclaim with his arms stretched over the barbie:

"You were born chickens, but now you are fish."

Oops! Today is Friday. Sorry!

Your sister in Christ,
Elizabeth
