I have been working at this job for six months and have been doing it very well. I was reading meters for a city in Southern California. I moved all the way across the United States to be with my wife Grace .

Yesterday, my supervisor's supervisor, brought me into his office and fired me. My supervisor disappeared and would not come in the meeting.

He said, "you're not meeting up to expectations."

I said, "What expectations are you talking about?"

He never elaborated. All he said was that if I think about it, it would come to me.

I asked him again, to which he replied the same thing.

Basically, from the first day I worked there, my supervisor has been neutral/negative to me, and turned around every good thing I did into something bad because she does not like me.

I practically begged for my job yesterday. I said, "I'm not going to cry, but I just got married, I just got an apartment, and I just bought a new car. Please let me keep this job." I reminded them of everything I did for them, but still they would not listen.

The supervisor's supervisor had written on the document of termination, "I regret having to take this action." So he knew it was complete b---s---. The lady who was supervising me sabotaged me and lied about me because she does not like me.

So she got what she wanted.

And now I'm fired.

And not only did they do this -- they marked me down as ineligible for rehire. So, not only can I not get a job again with the city of Tustin, when I put the City of Tustin down on a resume, and the prospective employer calls for a reference and says "would you hire him again", they're going to say "no". It wasn't enough for them to take my job from me. They put me down as ineligible for rehire.

I gave them everything. I did everything they ever asked me.

I was dang good at this job. I trained 10 or 12 people in this same job in North Carolina. I know what I'm doing.

I just don't know what to do now.

I was making 22.48 an hour - 46,800 annually.

And I am living in California. I was making it fine with the wage I had.

And now I don't have this job.

And the worst part is that this lady who supervised me is a Christian. She wore "Women Of Faith" sweaters to work and put Bible verses all over her cubicle.

I worked my heart out, and went above and beyond what was asked of me.

I got a lot of compliments, and there weren't mistakes behind my work.

I don't get this. I just don't know what to do now.

Only God knows what happened and why brother. I will pray that He makes a way for you. I guess I dont have to ask what the job market is in California right now.

Were at 22% in Central Florida right now. Your wife has a good job I hope? Unemployment benefits apply?

Your supervisor doesnt sound like any Christian I would ever want to know. I am so so sorry brother. Do you have any recourse in Calif law? Labor board? Lawyer?

In Florida the law is the employer doesnt need a reason to fire. right to work state which means right to fire. No unions.

Like I said I will be praying for you and your spouse.

I know the feeling Questioning Christian!

If they tell you what you did wrong, they will give you information that you can use against them. lol. I went through the same thing; three County Commissioners who were each and all my "immediate supervisors" until (without any communication whatsoever or input on my performance) they informed me that it was decided during Executive Session that I no longer worked for them, without explanation. I also relocated for the job at my own expense, and am now unemployed.

Sometimes I think about all the problems they had and all the steps I was taking to make things better, easier and less expensive for county residents, and my overwhelming thought is GET OVER IT; IT'S NOT MY PROBLEM ANYMORE! If they hadn't fired me, I'd still be working there because I'm not the type to quit. I made a lot of progess in a very hostile work environment with lots of yelling and cussing, and I was making some progress; the heathens that worked for me are still my friends today. I only want to know why I was dismissed! But, in my case, I have to PRAISE GOD! There was a lot of money involved, but this definitely was not the right place for me.

Anyway, I've been spending a lot of time online looking for work and applying for jobs. That's how I stumbled across Christian Forums and that's why I'm posting you! Praise God for that! There's a lot of work out there for those of us who are willing to relocate (again!). Let me know if you need any help and I'll tell you the venues I've found most useful.

Love as thee might, and pray for me as well! thanx.

I am so very sorry.
I work for the Labor Commissioners office in California. I get calls everyday, with folks telling me the very same story. It breaks my heart.

Here is the situation. California is an "at will State". That means an employer can let you go for any or no reason whatsoever. It also means that an employee can leave the job for any or no reason.

The employer does not have to give you a reason but very often they think they do and so they tell you anything.

The economy is really bad in California and many employers are having to cut back in every area. All too often that means letting folks go.
In the case of California State workers it meant 2 Furlough days a month, (unpaid days off). Some employers in the private sector are also offering furlough days, hoping to keep all of their employees.

I can tell you it is a mess. Lots of good folks out looking for jobs. Employers do have a choice of top rate selections when they want to hire. Many folks are changing the type of work they are willing to do.

I pray over ever call I get. I have family members in this same situation. It is so very sad.

If I can help you or answer any questions, please PM me.

Oh man! That has happened to me--let go for no reason. Once I had to quit because of office attitude. It does damage to one's self-esteem. In fact the rejection can do serious damage spiritually and emotionally. Refuse to bow to rejection, friend!

If you grieved this firing to the authority over labour (we have a provincial labour board) would they not be forced to divulge a reason for firing you?

I will pray.

Most lawyers will have a first appointment with you for free. Make ann appoinment with an employment lawyer and see if, undeer California law, you have a case.

Ask you supervisor's super if he will be a reference for you.

I've been where you are. Life will go on. I know it doesn't feel like it right now, buy you are still under His wing.

I relocated for a job and went into debt to do so. Turns out it was one of the best paying jobs in a small town and there were several people who were not happy about an outsider like me getting the position. (it was a government position and I had preference)

Anyhow, I was being set up to get fired and it nearly happened and my boss saved my job. (like a one get out of jail free card) and I went home and really cried out to God...Lord it's been a long time since you have really stepped into my life. I wanted to quit, but we prayed about it and against my own emotional complusion to just pack up and move back I went back to work the next day. Just before noon I had a job offer from a job I had applied for almost a year before back home making $4 more per hour than where I was at with about $400 less living expenses.

I hope this is encouraging brother! Don't panic, the Lord is with you. (really in truly...He is!)

From what I hear the best place in the nation for employment is Austin TX
I just moved from that general area and it is true...the San Antonio / Austin area has slowed since the economic downturn, but it is one of the fastest growing areas in the country....mainly because of the low prices compared to everywhere else. They get alot of people migrating there from California because the prices in that area are so much less expensive than on the west or east coast.

Makes you want to go home to be with Jesus.

I have been working at this job for six months and have been doing it very well.
Mate, we have a system in the Land of Oz, that employers can claim a government grant of wages for six months by employing someone. Does your government provide the same grant?

I was reading meters for a city in Southern California. I moved all the way across the United States to be with my wife Grace .
I am sorry to hear that.

Yesterday, my supervisor's supervisor, brought me into his office and fired me. My supervisor disappeared and would not come in the meeting.
It appears that you have been caught up in a melee. Maybe, they have been told to sack someone so they can employ a friend or a relation of the managerial staff.

He said, "you're not meeting up to expectations."
Yep, that means they have employed someone else, who has more expectations.

I said, "What expectations are you talking about?"

He never elaborated. All he said was that if I think about it, it would come to me.
Straight away, I believe that when you are unequally yoked with unbelievers, then you will get those sorts of remarks. You were set up mate, and there is nothing you can do about it.

I asked him again, to which he replied the same thing.

Basically, from the first day I worked there, my supervisor has been neutral/negative to me, and turned around every good thing I did into something bad because she does not like me.
Well, there are you are unequally yoked.

I practically begged for my job yesterday. I said, "I'm not going to cry, but I just got married, I just got an apartment, and I just bought a new car. Please let me keep this job." I reminded them of everything I did for them, but still they would not listen.
As sad as it is mate, this is how it is.

The supervisor's supervisor had written on the document of termination, "I regret having to take this action." So he knew it was complete b---s---.
Yes, because they had to fire on higher orders.

The lady who was supervising me sabotaged me and lied about me because she does not like me.
Why did she dislike you? You should have prayed for her.

So she got what she wanted.

And now I'm fired.

And not only did they do this -- they marked me down as ineligible for rehire.
It’s a lot deeper than it looks!

So, not only can I not get a job again with the city of Tustin, when I put the City of Tustin down on a resume, and the prospective employer calls for a reference and says "would you hire him again", they're going to say "no". It wasn't enough for them to take my job from me. They put me down as ineligible for rehire.
No doubt there is some ill-feeling there as well, and the real reason for that labelling is because they don’t want you to be re-employed and make comments about your past dealings and treatment---do they?

I gave them everything. I did everything they ever asked me.

I was dang good at this job. I trained 10 or 12 people in this same job in North Carolina. I know what I'm doing.
It’s not what you know mate; it’s who you know. I guess you wasn’t’ a “square-man”!

I just don't know what to do now.
I am sorry that this has happen to you, and off course you don’t know what to do. And of course you are hurting terribly.

I was making 22.48 an hour - 46,800 annually.

And I am living in California. I was making it fine with the wage I had.

And now I don't have this job.

And the worst part is that this lady who supervised me is a Christian.
Was she now, but you said earlier that she disliked you, so not very Christian. But, then again there are many wolves in sheep clothing.

She wore "Women Of Faith" sweaters to work and put Bible verses all over her cubicle.
There you are, a wolf wearing sheep’s clothing. Sad as it is mate, that doesn’t mean anything. I know a lot of Christian who wear those symbolic things, but they have their feet in two camps and worship another god.

I worked my heart out, and went above and beyond what was asked of me.

I got a lot of compliments, and there weren't mistakes behind my work.
Maybe you were the problem, you were too good and causing concerned from others.

I don't get this. I just don't know what to do now.
Due to the financial tsunami, I guess there are thousands of other people asking the same question. As sad as it is mate, you are just one of the casualties. They are putting people by the hundred in my home state in Australia.

And as much as we can edify, and show compassion mate, only you can solve the problem with the help of our Lord Jesus Christ.

My heart goes out to you and your wife mate.

Blessings mate.:)

Oh wow, I'm so shocked and sorry to hear that brother. What a stinky system where they can fire you for nothing and get away with it, yuck.

I pray you are able to think calmly and clearly how to deal with this, that you both have peace about it within the turmoil, and that this opens the door for a much better job where you will be fulfilled, valued and respected, with good money to cover all you need and more.

Thank you to everyone for your comments, the helpful ones, I mean.

I really need your support and prayers right now, more than anything else.

I will be applying on Monday for unemployment, as well as comparable jobs.

And as far as the Austin [Texas] suggestion, Grace and I have considered moving to that very city, because her dad and stepmother will be moving there as soon as they have their house fixed up and sold.

______________________________

P.S. - And then there's THIS ...

Maybe your supervisor did what God wanted her to do for His reasons that you now need to discover through trust and obedience.

Yeah, God told her to lie on me, slander my good name, and bear false witness.

And get me fired to where my insurance gets cut off when I just started developing an infection in my arm muscle.

And get me fired to where my insurance gets cut off when I was going to get some vision and dental work done for Grace that was never done for her when she was a child, which she desperately needs.

According to this logic, I am quite certain that God caused all of this to happen, and that God doesn't care about people's lives and health and personal appearance and income and ability to pay the bills...

In that world, God only cares about divine purpose, not about people.
