Oblivion is far, far better for PC, simply because you can get mods.

But games I would recommend (in no particular order):

Bioshock
Dead Rising
Call of Duty 2 and 4
Assassin's Creed
Kameo: Elements of Power
Burnout: Revenge
Burnout: Paradise

Funny, I prefer playing it on a console. I have both the PC and PS3 version, and I like the PS3 version more. Why? Because I like using my wireless controller on my sofa in front of my large TV over sitting in front of a computer moniter. (I DO have a wireless kb and mouse set up on my PS3, but it's just not practical when sitting on a sofa!!!). I've put about 270 hours into Oblivion on my console, so there is more than enough stuff to do in the game without the mods if you're just looking for a fun experience.

Agreed, but there's so much more potential and less frustration with the monster-leveling system on PC.

You mean, with a mod to change the monter-levelling system! Actually, I do agree. Mods are awesome! In the end, myself and many others (judging by game sales) find that the benefits of playing on a TV from your sofa outway the benefits of tinkering around with mods for hours on end in front of a moniter. :)

On the other hand, I can't bring myself to play the X-Box version of Morrowind, because the mods on the PC version help it sooooo much; especially graphics-wise! The only real improvements I've seen in graphics on the PC version of Oblivion is that you can have higher resolution textures and get rid of that "pea soup" effect. My PC can run Oblivion at full settings with an acceptable frame-rate, but that is besides the point! I've just found that I prefer console gaming, so I disagree that you can say "Oblivion is far, far better for PC" because there are more than mods that people factor into the equation. :)

Or at least the benefits of lower cost of a console versus a gaming computer that can run it (at least when if first came out, probably closer now). But anyway, I don't think any forum needs another console vs. PC argument.

I haven't played a ton of 360 games since I'm not really a fan of the system, but as I room with willard3 here at college, I have access to a 360 and have found a few things. Oblivion is excellent (though I agree it's better on PC, but still worthwhile on either). Bioshock is pretty awesome from the few hours of it I've played. Those are the only two I can straight up recommend. Others that have looked good but I've never played, or been fun, though have enough negatives that I wouldn't buy it, are Guitar Hero 3 and whatever Splinter Cell it is (Double Agent, maybe?). I'm currently playing Turok to review and while the graphics look good and controls seem to work well, the plot so far seems very very contrived. It could get better later with some plot, but if you want to shoot cool looking dinosaurs, it might be worth it. Might.

Oh, I'm just trying to say that they both have their merits! I'm arguing against the idea that one version is the "far, far better" version, when that's not necessarily the case when all things are considered. I've probably put around 100 hours in on the PC version of Oblivion, and almost triple that on the PS3 (which is the same, basically, as the 360 version; the PS3 version having slightly better graphics, but the 360 having more downloadables).

I prefer the PS3 myself, mostly because it's region-free and I don't feel like having my console dying on me. That's besides the point, though! I have put in quite a few hours on the 360 at various friends' houses. The absolute best game, IMO, is Oblivion. If you like FPS games, I'd go with The Orange Box or Rainbow 6: Las Vegas. Call of Duty 3 was pretty good, but I haven't played 4 and I'm not interested in it at all. Halo 3, IMO, is just an over-marketed game that's average at best but has great graphics (I have played through it). I definitely recommend the other games I mentioned over Halo 3.

Assassin's Creed is really decent. You've got Ace Combat 6, if you like flying games. Of course, Grand Theft Auto 4 is coming soon. The new Ninja Gaiden game is coming out soon, if it's not out already. It's pretty fun, but also difficult.

If you really like RPGs... get a PS3 that can play PS2 games. The best RPGs are currently on the PS2, while the best ones coming are on the PS3... with the exception of a few. Those few are made by Bioware; a great game company from Edmonton, Canada. They're responsible for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, and others. Fable 2 should also be good on the 360 (and PC), as I really enjoyed the original Fable. So, while the 360 doesn't have the best selection of RPGs, it does have a few quality titles thanks mainly to Bioware.

For hockey, you've got EA Canada's NHL series, or 2KSports's 2K series. I prefer NHL 2K8 over EA Sports NHL 08. I find the gameplay in 2K a lot more fun because the checking is... fun! NHL 08 feels more realistic, but that doesn't necessarily make it more fun to me. EA also has the entire AHL league, in addition to the NHL and a few Euro leagues. On the other hand, 2K8 has a TON of classic teams and jerseys. If you want to play the the 1975 Flyers against the '72 Bruins, or the '84 Oilers against the '89 Flames, you can! You can't do that with EA!!! 2K also has a ton of cool mini-games, like pond hockey, air hockey, an NTN style trivia game, and other cool stuff. I'd go with 2K8, but you can't really go wrong either way!

If you've got the room, and the friends :p, Rock Band is amazingly fun! So is Guitar Hero 2 and 3, but Rock Band has more stuff.

Oh, yeah. I know what you were saying. My comment was more meant as a joke than anything.

Assassin's Creed is really decent.

Ah! Forgot about that one! Great game.

Nope, just good! I found it too repetitive and there were also too many glitches in it to call it "great", IMO. :)

This is true, it did get kind of repetitive. But from what I've seen, it still ranks up there as one of the best so far on the system.

Everything is better if you have an HD-TV.

That it is. We just got HD cables for my HDTV, and things look really pretty.

I'm trying to play through it right now. It is fun... but I honestly can't get more than an hour into it at a time. Nearly EVERY mission is basically this: 1. receive your mission from the name base, 2. collect clues about the guy you're supposed to assassinate, 3. assassinate him, 4. rinse and repeat. Don't get me wrong, this IS fun... but it's the same thing over and over. I'm basically just doing a mission or two every week, because there just isn't enough variety to hold my interest.

That it is. We just got HD cables for my HDTV, and things look really pretty.
I hope you bought them online or at least shopped around! Stores tend to substantially mark-up the prices of HD cables because they're an easy sell to those who don't know better.

Don't pay more than $30 (or even $20) for an HDMI cable, or any other digital hi-def cable! There is no difference between a $20 HDMI cable and a $150 cable other than the price. They are exactly the same quality.

  1. DoA4
  2. Halo 2
  3. Blue dragon
  4. spiderman friend or foe
I am a huge rpg fan and a hockey fan
I see it has been said before, but can never be said enough--

OBLIVION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Careful, though. It will spoil you for a lot of other games. Dh is obsessed with Madden, although he admits it isn't that great this year.

I can't believe no one mentioned Fable. Great game. Oh, and as I said, DMC4 comes out today and is finally multiplatform.
