I Just Don't Get It: Why Do So Many People Treat Pets as Human Equals?

View attachment 306762; ultimately the focus should be on people, in far too many cases it is not. I can understand humane treatment to any animal, but some regard their pets as their children. And I asked myself how can a person spend thousands on a pet but complain about giving a dollar to a human in need. It is theirs to do as they please.

I stumbled across this article today and found it interesting. Equally so are the comments following. People are passionate about their pets. I have no pets at the moment but am a "grandparent" to many. I show up at friends' and family's and love on 'em, walk 'em and then LEAVE.

Two people in my life just lost pets and it was traumatic for them. One was hit by a car when she slipped out of the house when they were bringing groceries in. Another had breathing problems and the day after I went with them to take pooch to the vet, pooch died.

Two people in my life have ill pooches requiring about $350 a month in medicine bills and prescribed food. What is the upper limit of care?

I get enjoyment out of loving my loved ones animals for their sake. They enjoy sharing their pets with me and I enjoy sharing love with their pets. Ultimately my focus is on the people. Seems normal.

Over to y’all…what do you think around this topic?

Even from the Scriptures we see the love that people have for the animals in their care:

2 Samuel 12
1 Then the Lord sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him: “There were two men in one city, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. 3 But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food and drank from his own cup and lay in his bosom; and it was like a daughter to him. 4 And a traveler came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”

5 So David’s anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! 6 And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.”

This is so cool, I didn’t know this.

This is so cool, I didn’t know this.

It is where Nathan the prophet confronts David about his adultery with Bathsheba and his murder of Uriah her husband. Uriah is represented by the poor man and the rich man is David.

My husband and I are kind of obsessed with our dog. We’ve become one of “those couples”. She really is sweet, and huggy, and squishy. She’s like an unofficial therapy dog. Who loves cake.

Lol, My sister's Rottweiler Heidi was a sweetheart...(but I hear you!)

Maybe so, but if you want to see the mark of the beast, just visit Robby the rottweiler's back yard, who lives next door to me, after he has had his breakfast!!! Ewwwww.....

I remember being in line to check out some items at a store.. and I noticed a woman carrying something in a blanket.. I went over to get a closer look expecting to see a cute baby.. instead I saw a dog dressed up in a bonnet and a bib.. the lady then looked really embarrassed and tried to explain her reasons.. but I just slowly backed away.. lol.

That reminds me of something Mother Teresa once experienced; she loved babies and children, and went up to a lady pushing a baby stroller once, hoping to catch a glimpse of a baby. She was horrified and saddened to see a little dog in the baby stroller. The dog had taken the place of a human child in the woman’s life. Mother Teresa found that incredibly weird, and sad.

Yeah. This woman I am talking about was older though, so adoption was probably inappropriate at her stage in life. Who knows her story? She might have suffered from infertility, being unable to find a man.. etc.. She probably just settled with a dog to help cope with her raging maternal instincts. At least she was not carrying around a baby doll in a blanket, lol.

That could be. It’s kind of sad, though, especially when you factor in the bib and bonnet. That makes it sadder. Poor woman…

Terrible! How can humans treat us like that! I am going to paw a letter to my government representative!

We have a neighbor who pushes her aged dog in a stroller. When they get to a cul-de-sac, she takes the dog out so he can do his business, walks him around the circle and then pushes him home again.

Pets are companions.

Companions are more important to you than just the average Joe or Jane ...

That is so cute.
I think I have seen documentary about people who were pampering their dogs and they had strollers for them. I think it’s nice if dog really likes it.

I would go as far as to say pets are treated better than humans. People walk by a homeless person laying on the street but would run to the aid of a dog doing the same.
Blessings.

The bible warns that in the last days terrible times will come (2 Timothy 3:1). I think we can see part of this manifested in society today as animal life seems to be valued above that of human life. Caring for animal welfare is good and Godly, but priorities today seem to be warped. God Bless :)

I agree. It gets crazy. They aren't " fur babies". They are animals.
