How to get substantially better FPS in Doom 3:

*Browse to your /Program Files/Doom 3 folder. Open the file DoomConfig.cfg in notepad.

in DoomConfig.cfg, edit the following lines:

seta image_useCache
seta image_cacheMegs
seta image_cacheMinK

If you have 1GB of RAM, your config file would look like this:

seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "256"
seta image_cacheMinK "32768"

If you had 512mbs of RAM, it would look like this:

seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "128"
seta image_cacheMinK "16384"

I went from 800 on low detail to 1024 on high detail after this tweak (a lot of people with lower end PC's have had much better luck after this as well). In order to monitor your FPS, open your console (CTRL, ALT, TILDE), and type in com_showfps 1

I thought the AI of the zombie marines was great. They worked in teams, flanked you, etc. The demons just rushed at you in huge numbers which is....just about what I'd expect demons to do. I just beat the game 5 minutes ago. Overall, I loved it. Could have done without the
people being crucified upside down in the last level and the ending was disappointingly short
but other than that it was definitely worth the money.

I agree about the zombie marines. They may have had their brains eaten or corrupted, but they still manage to put up a good fight.

Am I the only one who absolutely loves the shotgun? The shot has way too much spread, but close up, it'll take out just about anything. One of the big pinky demons spawned right next to me once, and I took him out with one point blank head shot.

I just ordered my copy of the game. I'm overseas, so its not here yet. I also ordered Far Cry which I heard was also a great FPS.

I have been waiting for Doom3 for about 3 years.

As far as the morality of the game...well, its a game...other than that, you get to blast demons into oblivion...so its actually a virtuous game. :p

Personally, I wasn't too impressed with Doom 3. I mean, yes... nice graphics. Awesome graphics in fact, but the game play got real repetitive and boring after a while. For such a great engine and how they boasted about it, I'd expect a lot better. Still it's just a game and it's alright if you want to kill some time and blast away at some monsters. Like someone else mentioned, there were some things that didn't need to be put into the game, but then again... this isn't a Christian game :)

I'm pretty sure that Half-Life 2 won't have to try too hard to be a much better game. If it ever comes out. ;)

You could not have described that game better.

it was supposed to come out this summer but once again they delayed it to november. I think it was announced at the lastest E3. But i know for a fact they won't pull it into 2005 without a release. And yea i agree, Doom 3 will die when HL2 is released. Just watch a HL2 vid compaired to Doom3 :)

True, but Valve isn't the best developer, latley there making huge screw ups - yes, one of wich would be putting all the character dialouge in the Counter Strike Source.
I'm begining to think they where hacked because they didn't leave there norton-firewall on.
So, imo, there is a big chance HL2 will be a huge failure.

Anyway, there is a rumor HL2 may come out in september, w00t.

valve annouced it was coming out in november. I read it a couple days ago. I heard the counter strike that comes with HL2 was amazing. I haven't yet looked at any pics or vids oon it. But i wouldn't mind seeing what Team Fortress comes out lookin like on the HL2 engine :D

I agree, too. I'm very disappointed in Doom 3. I don't mind spending the money, because I figure I owe id, after all the fun I've had with Doom and Doom 2, but I'll probably never finish the game. I got it the first day, and I'm still in Alpha Labs. Whenever I sit down to play, I end up thinking of all the other games I prefer (Starcraft, Medieval-TW, Pharaoh, etc.) and end up playing something else.

I have been playing a lot of FS2004, Sea Dogs, Soldiers: Heroes of WWII, and Thief: Deadly Shadows. Except for a few select titles, '04 has been a real dissapointment for games. Hopefully 3/4th qr will bring more worthy titles to the table. ^_^
