Well, EvilAvatar at evil avatar is excited about doom 3 and is enjoying it, it seems he wants us to have as much fun with the game as he is.

DOOM 3 Tweaks & Fixes

A couple of DOOM 3 fixes are available today on the PlanetDOOM forums. This Page information on general bug fixes, including more information on the seta image_useCache variable, and This Page will tell you how to increase performance by uncompressing your .pk4 files.

I've also heard that ATI Radeon users who get crashing to the desktop should Disable Fast Writes and set their AGP speed down from 8x to 4x.

It seems the modding community is already starting working on Doom 3 aswell. This download will only enhance your game.

Doom 3 Duct Tape Mod

Under the crazy presumption that a roll of duct tape has to exist somewhere on the Mars facility, the Duct Tape mod sticks flashlights to your machinegun and shotgun. In order to preserve the atmosphere, these new lights are much narrower (and a little brighter) than the standard flashlight, and are only available on the basic weapons. The pistol is not equipped with a flashlight, so as not to spoil the early sections of the game.

Those tweaks did nothing for me in my benchmarks. Not sure about actual gameplay yet, but I guess it's worth a try.

Just bought it. What a game. My shiney new Geforce 6800GT lets me play it on the highest graphics settings....it's unreal. I changed the desktop icon though, since I don't want a pentagram staring me in the face everytime i sit at my computer.

I just didn't bother with a desktop icon. I have no need for them. As it is, I only have two, one for Outlook, one for the Recycle Bin.

I have it as well.
I agree its just a game, and we are fighting against hell.
The greatest sin I'm worried about in playing the game is the greed in wanting to buy it and buying an expensive video card to be able to run it. It runs sweet enough at 1024x768 High on my 9800Pro, but makes me want a Geforce 6800.
But I love the game, have finished it on Veteran, playing it through on nightmare now.

I got the game a few days ago, and im VERY pleased with it. The entire atmosphere and presentation is absolutely glorious. The computers that you can control without leaving your normal first person view are very neat. The graphics are astounding, and I have screamed a few times even. I dont understand the complaints against the AI. Not only have I not encounterd a situation where a monster did something and I thought "that was dumb", but I dont expect the minions of hell and zombies to act like special forces soldiers. The marine zombies themselves somewhat suprise me in how they act, as I wouldnt think a zombie could do that. This game is a 9.5 out of 10 for me, amazing game, I absolutely love it.

I'm awating a demo. Although my system meets the minimum requirements, and I have read that Doom III runs incredibly smoothly on any PC meeting the requirements, I'm still hesitant. Here are my specs:

1.6 ghz P4
512 mb DDR ram
GeForce ti4600 (128mb)

Does anyone have a similar set-up? If so, how does it run Doom III?

This is a sweet, sweet game.

Make sure you've got some decent speakers - I'm glad I've got a new set with a subwoofer - and turn off the lights. Make it as dark in the room as possible.

Now try not to scream.

I have a pretty decent 5.1 system. Call of Duty sounds incredible on it.

Well I have a 2.8 Ghz P4 with 1GB of Ram and Geforce 6800 GT. Not a bad rig, but technically I shouldn't be able to run Doom III on its best settings, but I tried it and surprisingly, the only time my framerate drops is when I enter the first room of a level. Other than that, the whole thing is smooth as silk, even with a ton of action taking place. I think u'll be alright. Turn the graphics all the way down and you'll still have the prettiest game u've ever seen in u'r life
