  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have to wonder if the whole world isn't laughing at us

As a Canadian, I and almost everyone that I know are not laughing; rather, we are deeply concerned for your country and for all of you people. Trump possesses hubris that exceeds almost every mad, autocratic dictator in history. He is inconsistent in virtually everything he says; and has threatened other nations as well as groups of persons living in the US. Business wise, he has accumulated wealth not through good management and success, but by capitalizing on failure.

Clinton, on the other hand is not much better. Neither have a workable plan for moving forward, and your country, while beginning to rebound economically, does not need any setbacks right now.

Economically, we are doing OK here in Canada (except for the oil and gas industry) Because our economies are so integrated, we are not looking forward to the aftermath of the election, and the potential negative effects it will have for us. Either choice, I believe, will be seen as destabilizing by the rest of the world, and that will lower economic confidence with those countries with which you trade.

We truly are concerned.

I agree with your take on Trump from the people (Canadians) I know. But everyone I know expects Hillary to be a pretty typical POTUS.

On the other hand, simply the fact that he's an American and not a Marxist would be sufficient to produce that kind of attack from you.
He's awfully chummy with Putin, and greatly admired by Kim Jung Un. Since he seems to be a master of deception, he may be a lot more of a Marxist than you think.

On the other hand, Sarah Palin, as you folks think of her, was almost totally a creation of the media and Saturday Night Live.

Had she been treated as an example of women coming into their own, as the governor of the largest state in the union, as a wonderful example of the party relating to women and youth, etc.--in other words, as the Hillary groupies treat Hillary--the outcome would have been entirely different.

The "media" didn't have anything to do with the many, MANY incredibly dumb answers she gave to rather easy questions. All the "media" did, was point it out.
