Hello everyone, I'm Med Rames and this is the name that i chose temporarily until i change it officially, My real name is Mohammed I'm from Morocco and I'm only 20 years old . and I've been a Muslim until that God Light my way and became a Christian in 2014 and privately, of course, I live in a predominantly Muslim country and i could get Kill or go toJail if someone know I turned to Christianity. My problem now is I do not know much about my new religion and all what i know just learned from the Internet because we do not have much Churches ,All we have is only one church was left deserted from the era of colonialism , I ask you to help, I can not leave my country to practice religion freely as I am always afraid to kill if one discovered what my religion. And I want to change my name too, but I can not so pleas help me .

Thanks

Welcome to the forums. :)

What made you convert to Christianity? Were your parents just culturally Muslim?

There is no need to change your name. Mohammed is not a sinful name, and I do think he was a prophet (SAW). God made promises to Abraham's wife, Hagar and her son in the bible.

I recommend reading the bible and praying. We don't have salah in Christianity; it's more like making duas all the time. But you can tell God everything that is in your heart and mind, so do!

I will help if I can, as I'm sure others here will as well. Ask any questions!

Well, fasting is a Christian practice as well. There is no harm in fasting during Ramadan. You are still doing it for God!

As for what branch of Christianity you should follow, that's a tough one. People from each branch will tell you why theirs is the right path. Just follow God, and learn as much as you can, and pray as much as you can to develop a close relationship with God. It might take some time to see results of your prayer, but it WILL happen.

You are probably limited as to what churches you can attend, so that will contribute to your choice. Do some research online to see which one fits most. Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant mostly have the same core beliefs. But the personal relationship with God is more fundamental than the beliefs; God will instruct you in the beliefs as you grow. The different branches have different worship styles, such as different music, words and different ways of reading through the bible.

I am just a Christian, I suppose I am Protestant, because I am not officially Catholic or Orthodox, but I have been to Catholic mass many time over the years and I love it. I feel comfortable worshiping God in most churches.

As for your parents, take or leave my advice, and above all let God guide you, but I would not seek a confrontation at this point. Just grow in your knowledge and faith, and at some point they will see the change in you. As it says in Romans 12:18 "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." This verse says 'everyone' rather than 'each other'. Everyone means non-Christians as well; when it says 'each other' it usually means Christians.

Hope that helps brother!

Follow Jesus. John 14:6, John 3:3, John 3:16-17, John 5:24, Romans 10:8-13, Romans 8:1. Look to your indwelling Holy Spirit to reveal and interpret scripture for you. Read especially the Book of Romans. Pray for the Holy Spirit to understand it for you.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Look only to the Bible; to God's Word; to Scripture. Your personal relationship with Jesus is key.

first and foremost you must have a bible. if the muslim has a koran, the christian has the bible.

- try to read the gospels (the first 4 books of the new testament) slowly. this will take time. then read then the other epistles. after that repeat, and read. purpose is to let you reflect on your life, and also compare christian teaching with islam. you will know and understand the difference, so you can make decisions in your life.

- Christianity is the history of God's love to his chosen people. and yes "God is love" is a concept found only in christianity.

- then you can try to watch several teaching in you tube. lots of muslim testimonies there who became christian.

- thirdly you must understand Christianity is NOT Roman Catholicism, not those who launch the Crusades and all those horror and violent stories. Islam has made propaganda of such history, distorted or true. when politics and religion mix, people and governments turned violent and naming it in the cause of God. This is NOT Christianity, so don't waste your time thinking it is. Christianity is founded in the teachings of Christ, so refer always to the bible.

- if you have any other questions, just post a question in this forum.

I don't want to debate on an Introduction thread, or to debate on these kind of threads anymore, but honestly this is probably the worst argument ever. I could so easily say that all American protestants are all members of the KKK or anything (even if it would be terribly stupid of me, you shall agree).. Always nice to see that even peace is not possible even between Christians. We are supposed to be brothers in Christ, not to give lessons to others.

Anyway hello and welcome! Nice to meet you! I hope you will find what you are looking for. If you are from Morocco, you perhaps speak French? If you do, it would be a pleasure for me to talk to you. I have in my parish a Maroccan who converted too and came in France to escape his family, an adorable man of a great kindness.
I totally agree with LaSorcia, who shows respect and esteem to anyone. God belong to peace. For me, God is where peace is. I saw peace, with my own eyes, in Catholicism and in some Catholic events, however you will perhaps find Him in an another movement, and finally find your answers in an another place.
You cannot be a Christian alone, when you are a Christian you care about others. Of course, you will have to read the Bible, but the best is still to talk to a pastor/priest: I am afraid this forum won't really help you, there are too much people trying to show that they have the only truth, when you recognize a Christian by his acts and not hateful words. Christianity is a gift. The gift of yourself to God, and mostly to others, like Christ himself did. The gift of forgiveness, the most difficult - to forgive your enemies. You will have to believe that God's love is stronger than anything, in fact that love can win.

God will lead you. It may sound cheesy, but love will lead you.

this is church history, not a matter of respect. with popes meddling with governments and instigating wars. now much like the japanese who ignore their emperor's involvement during world war 2, every rc thinks they have a lovely history of rose gardens.

bro careful with the romanists, you best stay away from them, its a shackle that will bind you. read the bible and know the freedom that is in christ.

How lovely to see the unity of the Spirit addressed! The striving for uniformity will always leave you flat, just like that search for the “perfect” spiritual leader; “free” of faults, qualms and exceptions. Sorry, it ‘ain’t gonna happen’.

We are perfect when we speak from imperfection, just like the love of unity won’t be seen teaching newcomers to close their eyes to someone only wanting to say something to our benefit, such as “Hello my brother!” It has the capacity to break one’s heart if they were ever put into such an exp. The Spirit of God might come as the biggest surprise of all in some folk’s lives if it were to take place.

We are Christian, while we are sound, we also can suffer wrong for the benefit of the weaker member. Do I need to remind you of this textual point? I prefer the softer side of Christ, we all should, should gravitate towards that kindest of gentlemen – the Holy Spirit.

Welcome to the family of God in Christ. You have our prayers!

This is not a place to bash Roman Catholics. What a poor example to set for a new brother. No single denomination or person is 100% correct in their doctrine as we yet "see through a glass darkly". There are plenty of real Christians in Orthodoxy, Catholicism and Protestantism.

Following Jesus and the Holy Spirit is the way to go! There are only two 'rules' in Christianity. They are very simple, but very difficult to do! Love God with all your heart, mind and strength and love your neighbour as yourself.

How do we love God? Well, it helps to get to know him. Prayer, bible study, and time in the relationship with God all help us to do this.

Loving our neighbours (and ourselves) can be a bit tricky sometimes, especially when people are rude or worse. Don't worry, this is a lifelong project. :)

Church fellowship is a good thing. It might be possible for you to find a church meeting online. Joining this forum was a good idea. Islam has the ummah, Christianity has the Body of Christ. We all need each other! Are there any other Christians near you?

You might find these sites helpful, too:

Joyce Meyer teaches the basics of Christian living. Aimed towards people living in a secular culture. You can watch video teaching free.
http://www.joycemeyer.org/broadcasthome.aspx

There are many good teachers on Ancient Faith Radio as well. These are audio files, unless I just haven't found the videos.
