• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Asperger's isn't easy to live with, for those who don't know it is a developmental disorder meaning I am younger than I realy am. I mature a lot slower. There are other things as well such as having two sided conversations with myself, anger issues, depression, ADD, and other things. The good news is it is out grown because eventually I will be the right age mentally, well kinda. By the time I reach 30 I should be a full adult. I just wish I aged slower physically as well because when I am 80 mentally I will about 60-70, wouldn't' that be great. :D

Growing up was realy tough though not being the age I realy am, kids thinking I am weird because I act differently. It is hard having a disability and not anyone knowing it. I didn't know I had it till I was a senior in high school. All my life I thought it was ADD the doctors misdiagnosed me and many others back then because Asperger's wasn't known well back then. ADD is something I had with it though and the meds helped with that but not with my immaturity and stupid comments that I still make today.

I just want to let you guys who have this to know that is not the end, just learn to live with it and you will out grow most of it, and hopefully this cure for autism is a real thing.

Yes, it is frustrating. It is as if we are "strangers in a strange land". However, God is much greater than our Aspergers. He promises to guide us through our "challenges". All we need to do is to trust Him.

Also, there are people who can see the "real us" behind the Aspergers. These are very special people.

God wants us to rejoice. I know---it is often difficult when so many people reject us. However, God loves us and our "victory" is assured.

To God be the glory!!!

Thank you for sharing this. MY nephew has aspergers and he is only 12 right now. You have given me that hope you hear about but I haven't seen. I don't know anyone else with it.
They say that ppl with this tend to excel in certain areas and that doesn't develop until the high school years. Have you found this to be true and if so what area?
MY nephew seems to be shining in the music area, he can hear something and play it on recorder. I too was able to do this with teh violin and organ.....

Hope you don't mine me asking...

Hugs and Prayers

If there was a cure for Asperger Syndrome, I would not take it, even if it was absolutely free.

Well, all medical stuff is free here but I wouldn't take a "cure" because I like the way I think and I imagine being forced to think another way would be mind altering. Yuck.

Anyway, I'm high functioning enough to hold a job and all that, so I can always try to fake being NT.

I recall asking some technically astute questions in kindergarten .... It's amazing what we can excel at, given freedom to pursue our interests. Even without freedom, I was reading history books and tech manuals at 11.

Your nephew should be encouraged along the musical lines then. :)

me too I have Aspergers Syndrome. I am 19 and I live in New Zealand. I dont know what having Aspergers really means to me, but I am lucky to have Aspergers I think. I would not change it because then it wouldnt be me. It does make some parts of life tough. I also have some spatial awareness issues and sensory dysfunction. I can not judge speed or distance so I can not cross a road safetly. I cant tell if the car will hit me or not. And of course I cant drive a car and stuff like that. Oh well.

I tried to become "normal" all my life, so I could fit in. I sought Jesus for 35 years, knowing "Jesus is the Answer." The diagnosis really stopped me. But I am back on my feet now and heading on.

I am rebuking poisons in my body and brain and asking Jesus to escort them out of my body safely. I also got a prescription of anti-depressants. Between the two, I'm more "with it."
