I know a group of RPers who have been anxiously waiting for someone to come up with a good idea for an RPG, and I juuuuuust might have it.

So, a while back, I was lying awake daydreaming on the verge of sleeping, and I was trying to think of a good topic for a novel that didn't sound like anything already written, because I want to be a trendsetter. So, as I was lying awake, this whole new world came to me...

Picture a world, much like Earth...but with no definite ground, or shape. Instead, the planet has somewhat exploded, leaving the inhabitants on floating landmasses the size of continents and smaller landmasses the size of islands, with all of the people intact. How is this possible?

With magical artifacts called Spheres. As the name suggests, they are spherical in shape, and come in a variety of colors, as well as having a variety of functions. Some Spheres generate tremendous amounts of heat, while other Spheres grant the ability to breathe underwater. The color of the Sphere usually denotes the Spheres' function.

So, what do the Spheres have to do with keeping the destroyed planet's inhabitants alive, as well as preventing them from being killed by the molten lava, and preventing them from floating out of orbit into deep space?

A special kind of Sphere generates it's own gravitational field. Upon activation, some Spheres generate a field powerful enough equal to a planet's gravitational pull. When drilled into the planet's crust, these Spheres, when the planet's core began to rupture, activated, and when the core "exploded", the Sphere's were able to keep the landmasses intact, resulting in large floating continents in the sky.

To answer your question about the water supply, some Spheres were drilled into the bottom of oceans and lakes resulting in massive reservoirs of water collected around a single Sphere. These are called Sphere reservoirs (easy enough).

Now, to answer the question about the molten lava when the core exploded, how did the lava not explode outwards and into the landmasses and kill thousands of people? Well, in conjunction with the gravitational field Spheres, a second type of Sphere was drilled into the planet's crust called a repelling Sphere. As the name suggests, upon activation it generates a repelling field that pushes away other matter. Several of these Spheres were placed at strategic points in order to repel the molten lava from flying upwards into the air (instead condensing it into a solid rock that all of the landmasses orbit around) and also aiding in the somewhat large landmasses gain altitude in the air, away from the polluted air below them down where the molten rock and all the ash from the planet's core pollutes the air.

So, now that we have the scene established, it's time for a history lesson. The planet in question's name is Arenia, and the people who populate it are called Arenians. Arenians, like Earthlings, name their countries and continents, as well as their cities and towns (it is a very large world, much like Earth in most ways). Arenians are humanlike in most ways, aside from their different genetic structures. While human hair and eye color is usually limited to black, brown, blonde, and red (with different shades in between), an Arenians hair may be solid white or a navy blue from birth. They also have long ears that end in a point that extend outwards, which aids in their hearing (it's very sensitive, they can hear some things outside the normal hearing range of humans). Arenians also mature and grow quickly, but have long life spans, living about 140 human Earth years. Also, only female Arenians can grow their hair. Male Arenians, from the moment of their birth, have the length of hair they will have their entire life. In Arenian culture, hair is very sacred, and if an Arenian male chooses to cut his hair of his own free will, it is a dishoner to his family and his people, and is treated as an outcast, and must live in Outcast Desert for the rest of his life (a smaller, island like landmass with very little food and water, exclusively for exiles).

Arenians only just before the Grand Explosion (the incident that caused their planet to literally tear apart) began to keep track of their history, instead relying on passing down of history from family to family to keep track of the planet's history. No one knows where the Spheres came from, but it is rumored they came from the Arenian Ruins which rest in the northernmost part of the planet--they are also the only standing structure to remain on the molten core of the Arenian planet, therefore it is only accessible by airship, but the air is so thick with molten ash that it is hard to navigate the treacherous territory and so not many pilots are willing to explore the Ruins.

The Spheres energy, however useful it is, is not unlimited. So the Arenian government decided that it was important that more and more people look for Spheres to help keep Arenia's landmasses afloat in midair, unless the people wanted to risk falling back to the polluted core and risk dying in the thousand foot fall, or being killed while breathing the polluted air. So, people took on jobs as Sphere Hunters, turning in whatever Spheres they found for compensation in the form of money. Sphere Hunting is a popular profession, and some Spheres are unearthed by the strong winds in higher altitudes, so even young children discover Spheres while playing and are able to contribute to the planet's survival.

As the Arenian government evolved, several government corporations decided they should be responsible for the function and caretaking of the planet's gravitational Spheres, and so each corporation selected a Sphere that they would take care of. The corporations also began distributing other Spheres with more household functions (Illumination Spheres, Cooking Spheres, etc.) and the corporations decided that they would make more profit if they had more than one Sphere, as more people would buy from them, and thus they would make more money. So, the corporations declared a silent war on one another, hiring rogue Sphere Hunters to do their dirty work. These rogue Sphere Hunters came to be known as Mavericks. The Arenian government, even though it knows the corporations are waging silent war on one another using airships, and stealing business from one another and ruining the planet's economy, can do nothing about it, because the governemtn lacks sufficient evidence, and receives funding from the corporations success in running the Spheres that control the landmasses gravity.

The airships that are used in Sphere Hunting are called Guardians, and the captains of these airships are called Sky Guardians. Guardians come in many different sizes, such as small motorbike sized vehickles, or hulking airships that take up several thousand miles and must be piloted by several thousand people. The first Sky Guardian ever was Phillip Wingston, who used a freeform energy producing Sphere in his motorcycle to generate a propulsion system that allowed him to fly. He used the bike to traverse the open skies after the planet's explosion to check on his injured relatives who lived far away.

These enormous airships are sometimes armed with weaponry, and sometimes are not, but it is expected that to survive in the world of Sphere Hunting it is necessary that your Guardian have weaponry.

So, how do all of these airships, and Spheres, and government blackmail and evil corporations waging war on each other have to do with anything?

It all begins with a legend. The legend of the Sky King, who amassed a treasure so great that people have been hunting for it for over one hundred years. Sometimes a new rumor will come around revealing the location of the treasure, and people will hunt for the treasure rather than hunting for Spheres.

This RPG...I want it to be about a young man who wants to find the Sky King's treasure, and to do that must get an airship, and to do that must be a Sphere Hunter, and his journey with his crew againts rival crews and such, but I don't know how it would work. It's an amazingly fleshed out idea (even for me), but I have no idea how to wrap it all together or make it work.

Well, I need the country names, but those can be made up on the fly, as long as they're not ridiculous sounding.

But, yeah, the Guardians mentioned, they have names as well...

So, I was thinking, at the beginning, a bunch of young kids, basically, hear about the Sky King's return...And they decide they want to journey on a Guardian, and eventully get their own Guardian so they can search for the Sky King (or achieve their dreams, whatever else they may be)

So, I was thinking, I'm gonna have two characters...For now. One will be one of the "young kids" mentioned above, and another will be a Maverick. I think.

Since people are actually interested, I'm gonna make an actual OOC. It's gonna be under "The Sky King of Arenia OOC"
